Newbie looking for guidance

Hey all, hoping someone can help me out...

Got a bit in over my head with domain names, thinking they'd be really easy to sell (lol).

Anyway, just really need some guidance on the best route to take to get sales (at least one!) - I've got all my domains listed in my sig and they're listed on afternic, sedo, domainnamesales and a couple other places but I haven't gotten so much as a bite.

Now I'm not actively hustling simply because I'm not sure which ones I should really promote. I'd really like to get a broker that can help but not sure where to find one that is engaged in getting sales (I've reached out to quite a few already with no luck).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, this forum is great and I've learned a bit here but still struggling....

Where do these domains redirect to? You should try parking them. You would then have some traffic stats. Only renew those domains which make their regfee. Everything else you should drop. At a guess, I'd say 99.9% won't be making their regfee.

I just signed up for and loaded them into voodoo, I had them with prebuilt but wasn't happy with their results...

Interesting where you were going with those names, but to me it seems like you've gone too far with the "long tail" concept and I don't foresee a payday with most of them. Long tail and .net extension especially. Forget .biz. Keyword "airport" same. Just one point of view.

have you done a google search for these terms and contacted the results, if not, give it a go and don't get greedy. Quality over quantity is the way to go in the future.

Yeah obviously I didn't really know what I was doing.... Although I had a vision for each one of them I quickly realized there's no way I could build them all out. I just listed at voodoo then I'll probably take one at a time to throw wordpress on there with a couple articles and adsense. Just wondering if anyone has any better ideas.

You know it's funny because there's a lot of talk about Google penalizing or not ranking EMDs anymore but I've got a few #1 rankings or first page rankings with nothing but a parking page! See affiliatemillionairemagnet.com or soloadfrenzy.com or jedidomains.com

Which site are you wondering about the WordPress theme on? I'm just using the standard 2014 theme for buydomainsforsale.com.

I haven't done that Google search, basically I didn't know which ones to even start with. Guess I'll take a crack at weightlosschocolates.com and see how it goes.

Yes i did mean your site, been a while since i used a standard template from wp , i think for each domain contact the first, maybe second page for whatever search results come up, you may get lucky, Dont give away the chocolate name, it was one of your better regs, good luck

I am not a mega fan of EMDs or LTK but I can understand your train of thoughts - which is something considering that many domains we see here doesn't seem to have any sort of cognitive input behind them.

That said I would :

check if any of them has a decent search volume

contact local business that can be interested in your Hawaii related names

get rid of the no .com

get rid of the names that are not a trend anymore or that lost interest among the public

put some of them here on NP starting at 1$ to see what happens

point all your names to your website if they don't have much traffic or if you don't make money from parking them.

Question : you have been accepted @ DNS and your names are not parked with them; why?

majority of others are margin killers

Regarding not parking at DNS, I was having a tough time with their interface but I'll have to go back there and check it out because they seem to get great reviews here...

I was getting a few bucks a day with adsense ads when I had them on prebuilt.com templates but I just changed over to voodoo and haven't seen any $ come in yet, so DNS will be my next step to at least make a couple bucks in the meantime.

Yes,on your side you only need to change the nameservers but in order to have your names parked with them you must :

A) have an account with them

B) submit the domains for approval. Only the approved ones will be parked and listed in their marketplace.

Thanks photonmymind, looks like I got everything set up over there - just had to go through the parking verification with them.

Guess all there is to do now is wait and see how well they do parked there.

Anybody know if there's another place like prebuilt where you can add your own adsense code in there so you're not splitting it with the company you're parking with? Does domainapps do that?

Selling good domain names is the question of time.

Acquiring those is not so easy. One need to learn the industry and the finance too.

mdrosenkrans, my advice is to develop a strategy for your domain business. I would start with the sites where you have those top rankings (#1-3) and start to monetize those by building them out with content sites, adsense, and perhaps higher paying (relevant) affiliate offers. Once you can show revenue on a site like flippa, you will see offers. Also, make sure to list the ones to want to sell at Sedo, Afternic, and GoDaddy (if registered there.)

Next, I would rate your domains based on those with keyword/search potential versus those which are brandable, and perhaps drop some of the ones that would need more monetization to brand.

Lastly, if the non dot com and hyphenated domains are not producing any immediate SEO results, I would drop them (just my opinion).
