I'm new...I jumped into this on a lucky whim I sold a domain I had for 10 years for $1500 last month and another this month for $5000...hence 10 x $10 a year = $100 cost per domain not a bad return on investment...
They were for a business idea I never did...both were real buyers one in Singapore who called me and another in the US...both worked with me via Escrow.com
I still have about 50 domains and acquiring more...Is it best to park your domain? or is there a simple way to build a themed site? When I see the "starter sites" on flippa it gets me curious how others build those so quickly and easily....thoughts? any recommendations to get me started...I see website templates or wordpress ones with "Master Reseller Rights" all the time on ebay for sale...are those worth it or junk? Thanks!

Just because you've had success with 2 domains you've held for 10 years doesn't mean you can rinse and repeat that success in these times. There were many more good domains available for registration 10 years ago, than there are today, at least in the .com gtld. The real calculation might look something different. Like 50 domains x 10years x $10/year = $5000 costs, $6500 revenues. Profit $1500. Still nice, but way different to your calculation. I wouldn't be buying any more domains at this point, without getting some kind of appraisal on your remaining 48 domains.

Most of the Master Resell Rights crap is just that, crap. You should just throw up a wordpress blog and make some posts. Or just put up a For Sale page, if you are really lazy :)

If you plan to resell sites?
Then hey, ebay has great websites for sale cheap to throw up on domains.
I prefer the wordpress ones.
Just go to ebay and to Websites & Businesses for Sale.
Check out everything.
And do read the terms and so forth.
Hope this helps.

No way do you want to use stuff you bought off Ebay or anything other than a verifiable trustworthy business - you have no idea what malware may be in the code. Most Wordpress templates are free - just go search on Wordpress.org - they, and in fact by definition any Wordpress theme, are open source (GNU) and you can do whatever you like with them, including reselling them on Ebay.

Building a site is probably a waste of time if you just want to sell a domain.

Okay...what about people who create those mini-sites and flip them on flippa :)
That's what I was trying to figure out how they create those so easily and fast and repetitively.

To the ebay naysayers who say you buy malware?
Sorry, but the trusted sellers there do not pass on malware!
Geesh, mention a site and bam, haters hate the site!

That's what I was trying to figure out how they create those so easily and fast and repetitively.

The majority of those sites are fake, and have faked traffic/adsense/alexa stats. Just a few months old, but they often claim to have 20k, 60k visitors per month, as well as decent earnings... Yet they don't rank for any keywords in Google, no strong backlinks, no social signals, nothing.

How can they make them so fast and repetitively? They often use article spinners, such as The Best Spinner and WordAI to rewrite content to make it look unique to search engines. A lot of them are also picture based (i.e. wallpaper sites, women's hairstyles sites), so not much writing is required. Google tends to consider pictures with little text as thin content, and the adsense cpc is really low for these sites, so there is no way their visitor/earnings are real. I guess many of them also used nulled premium wordpress themes, so they often look very slick.

If you want to learn more about quick website creation and flipping, you will find more info at blackhatworld.com than here, since this is a domain name forum.

Building legitimate sites with real value to flip in the short term on Flippa is not worth it imo. Used to be a decent way to earn, but the countless scammers with their fake sites have ruined it.

Yeah I just got one guy banned on flippa this week for making up too much numbers and every legit question he would delete. It was ridiculous. Thanks for the info peeps!
