I wanted to grab a particular (my first) special domain, so after doing a bit of research, i have placed minimum bid backorders with snapnames, namejet, godaddy and pool to try and cover as many bases as possible.

Domain Name: xxxxx.com
Registrar: ENOM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.enom.com
Referral URL: eNom - domain name, internet services, dns hosting
Status: clientDeleteProhibited, clientTransferProhibited (this previously said Status: Locked)
Expiration Date: 2010-11-23
Creation Date: 2000-11-23
Last Update Date: 2009-11-24
Name Servers:
xx.name-services.com
xx.name-services.com
xx.name-services.com
xx.name-services.com
xx.name-services.com

I was a little confused as to why there was an extra year added on to the original expiry date, so i wasn't sure whether i'd have to wait one whole year. But i rang up enom.com who "confirmed" that the current registrant is in their grace period and it could take many months before it was on pending delete status (a big if). I'm still not clear on this matter, or even if enom.com actually own this domain. Anyway..........

1) I have read some tales that enom/namejet aren't quite true to their word and even if the domain does go to auction and you are the only bidder they place it on a wishlist and don't release it to you. True?

2) Also read enom's grace period to the registrant is around 29 days (no further redemption period which sounds a bit harsh). Looking at the dates, should i panic anytime soon???

3) Does namejet, being affiliated with enom increase my chances?

4) Should I raise my minimum bid with them so $29 doesn't look like such a pathetic amount to them?

Personally i hope snapnames pick it up if it drops. Their reputation appears less tarnished.

Any help would be much appreciated in securing my dream domain :D

If it is a 5L actual word, and it goes to snap names, you better raise your visa credit card limit, there are some large dollars out there, and $79 might not be enough.

It's been provisionally renewed with the registry, otherwise it would enter redemption status upon expiry. Technically the domain has not expired, but the registrar has not been paid for renewal.
It will first be available at namejet as a prerelease (probably end of the month or early January). Please note that people can see domains that have at least one bid. You may then be in an auction with other bidders.

I see. At the moment i placed a backorder and its status is Wishlist. Once it hits pre-release, does it just stay there until the the date they give under 'Backorder By:' ?

Is it wise to think that as the registrar is enom.com, its best to monitor namejet regulary and less so on the other 3 places i've placed a backorder?

It was my understanding that all eNom drops go directly to NameJet and that they are owned by the same company. It is also my understanding that the majority of people who own five letter one word .com domains and have continuously registered them since 2000, do not typically let them drop.

You could always email the domain owner, inform them their name is about to expire and make an offer for the name. This could backfire when they just renew it and say no thanks - but you probably wont be able to afford the name anyway if it goes to auction...
