Had my eye on this one for a while........and finally decided to go for it ......

Mainly because this is the biggest city in NEW JERSEY, close to MANHATTAN, and renewal fees are standard 24.95......

One cannot ignore the impending wave that is coming with .TV geos...getting in early is staking your claim in the virtual real estate landrush!!

Looking for some feedback here guys.....

I paid $500 for NEWARK.TV. I have been thinking about this for a couple of weeks cause of the price.

Whilst it is the largest city in New Jersey, there are alot of negatives about Newark...one of the lowest levels of salaries, one of the highest crime rates and unemployment levels... and no tourism to speak of.......

Bare in mind that this is a one off payment, so it is reg fee after that, but still, did I overpay for this??

I live in New York so I might have a little more context.

Yes, Newark is not the nicest city in the world and has no destination tourism market, though it does have a very busy airport which that there are airport hotels around.

BUT

It is *the* major city in New Jersey and its population at 200,000 understates its size/impact. If you look at that part of NJ from the air, it is basically 100% developed/inhabited. Once city just blends into another so the 200,000 figure is a bit arbitrary. The metro area population is 2,000,000.

And it is going a slow but definite revitalization.

At $500 one-time and regular reg fee this is an easy decision. IMO, this should have been a $500/year premium and someone would have still regged it.

I've often said it's much preferable to start with one good quality name over 10 average names. All of your efforts and opportunity get magnified when dealing with a pure keyword in an extension that fits. A pure city in .TV is an internet investment ... and a rare find.

City names are automatic portals and will appeal to real estate, attorneys, insurance companies, local media/TV, hotel owners, etc. With Newark, residents and businesses who live and work there have innate interest in the name (and what it may become). Once you have the name, you can take your time to really explore the various options for development, PPC, resale. Initial acquisition cost is your most important calculation. The renewal in this case is nill. At $500, you added a very high quality name to your portfolio. I am not the most impartial opinion here, :hehe:-, but I acquired by geo's because of these observations ... not the other way around. And to this day I have no regret whatsoever.

If you had passed on Newark.TV because of $500, you would be sick with yourself 2 years down the road. The window of opportunity is open for a very short time. And you seized it.

Cory Booker, Newarks still relatively new mayor, is a huge dynamic prominent figure - He was on Oprah not too long ago. America is keeping its eye on this young mayor - research and read about his accomplishments. Extremely eloquent - I see him appearing on www.Newark.tv already! - Great reg! -
