Had my eye on this one for a while........and finally decided to go for it ......

Mainly because this is the biggest city in NEW JERSEY, close to MANHATTAN, and renewal fees are standard 24.95......

One cannot ignore the impending wave that is coming with .TV geos...getting in early is staking your claim in the virtual real estate landrush!!

Yes indeed it was more than $200 Antonis....the previous owner bought this back in 2003 at reg fee and was very aware of the premium pricing policy in place now for all geos of any significance.....

Whilst Newark may not be the most populous city, nor may I add the most glamorous!!...it still holds an important geographical significance being that close to Manhattan and the banking/insurance industry - in fact it is now the third biggest insurer geographic wise after New York and Hartford, and hopefully, from a living location perspective, the only way is up, given its less than envious record on crime and disorder.......

Cities consolidate their populations alot faster than towns and villages etc, and hopefully the pop growth should double within the next ten years making this an unmissable oppurtunity at the price of $500.......

Note to ST - you can add the $500 sale to the sales thread!!!

Nice pick-up Miller. Large cities have that natural built-in audience. 282k population and growing.

Part of my decision to buy Newark was checking NEWARK.COM, it is not a geo site, but some sort of software site, meaning no competition from the normal .com geo....giving the TV free reign to create a new and unmatched geo site for the city of Newark. IMO, that must be a big plus.

Looking for some feedback here guys.....

I paid $500 for NEWARK.TV. I have been thinking about this for a couple of weeks cause of the price.

Whilst it is the largest city in New Jersey, there are alot of negatives about Newark...one of the lowest levels of salaries, one of the highest crime rates and unemployment levels... and no tourism to speak of.......

Bare in mind that this is a one off payment, so it is reg fee after that, but still, did I overpay for this??

Now we Know that LOCALEXPERTS got VIRGINIABEACH for $450, so compared to that, I did not do aswell, but that could be more about LOCAL getting a really good deal on VB , then me getting a bad deal on NEWARK....

So bottom line, especially if we think a few years out into the future, do the negatives that this city has to its reputtion and lack of tourism in any way affect its ability to use an established geo business plan to make decent revenue/income of it and was the $500 one off payment well spent???

Thanks guys

IMO newark.tv for $500 is relatively cheap.

These are the reasons (all in my opinion of course):
- Has an airport (I once flew on newark airport).
- Like already mentioned, there is no .com competitor.
- Over 33 million searches in Google with plenty of Google ads on the name 'newark' alone (at least here in Europe).
- The ads are mainly car rental, flight tickets and hotels. Those are nice paying ads probably aminly based on the fact that the airport handled over 33 million passengers in 2005, compared to the 41 million passengers for the well known JFK airport in 2005, that's quite high.
- Normal reg fee, this name could be a $250 reg fee name without any problem.
- If you compare it with another recent sale, detroit.tv, of which we all agree that the price of $1,660 was a bargain:
* Google searches 102 million for detroit compared to 33,6 million for newark.
* Overture results 88,221 for detroit compared to 40,343 for newark.

If detroit.tv is a bargain for $1,660 then newark.tv is relatively at least the same bargain for $500, not even 1/3 of the detroit price.

Also, think about this, the guy who sold the name had regged it 17 January 2003, so he has paid reg fee for 4 years, that is around $140 (think the reg fee was around $35 for most registrars last year). To make a profit of $360 in 4 years time, keeping in mind that .tv is now much more promissing then in those days, is not really much.

Last reason why this is a good buy, if you regret the purchase, you can always sell it to me for $500, no kidding here :)

BTW with developing it might be a good idea to add some airport information to the site as I think the airport is a huge benefit to the name.

Good luck, John.

Talk about taking time out to come up with an informed opinion - thank you very much John......

No I do not regret my decision because I have said to myself that since it is reg fee, I can sit this one out for a few years..who knows the population could really take off, and the statistics which are at their very worst right now, can only move in one direction - and thats better...there is a real attempt going on right now for rejuvination.....and it is for these reasons I paid up.....
