Some material points to the fact that in order to acquire protection demonstrated by use this use thould if its a geo domain ("geodomain" "geodomains" "geo domain" "geo domains" "geo-domain" "geo-domains") be tied to something more. For example with geo - domains Dracut.com (CIS) it is always marketed with the (CIS) at the end denoting the (CIS) for Commonwealth Internet Services (CIS) and CBNO Dracut.com (CIS).

The domain(s) Dracut.com (CIS) is/are a vertical as is Tyngsboro.com (CIS) for Dracut MA & Tyngsboro Mass respectively as is RollerBlading.com (CIS) for rollerblading (rollerblading rollerblade).

(CIS) - Horizontal portfolio of verticals.

CBNO was created by (faculty staff students) teams within UMass & Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as an umbrella for all of the .org nonprofit / not for profit, .net & .com properties world wide.

See the WayBackMachine for early snapshots.

We have always attached CBNO & (CIS) as part of the registered domains making it 100% clear that we are not for example the (Tyngsboro(ugh)) government and that we are Commonwealth Internet Services (CIS).

Rights are enjoyed as a result of acquired distinctiveness.

.gov is for government so this shouldn't be a problem. But it could present a lot of paperwork if a municipality files a court complaint accusing you as passing off as something that you are not.

Does anyone know how Poland Spring water was able to call themselves Poland Spring since that is a geographical indicator?

Hope that guides your quest for the answer you seek in plain English.

In 2017 Google: "Geodomain Case 1681cv03445."
