Hi,

I want to get started in the domain world, buying and selling, and I thought this may be a good place to get some info.

What sites are really good for finding and selling domain names? Also, what sites do you guys use that are reputable/trustworthy for fund transactions? Thanks so much.

Jilly:)

any others?

and once I buy domains and are waiting to sell them, are there ways I can make money off them?
Are there like escrow type websites that you need to use in order to make sales?

I'm quite new as well. My biggest piece of advice, do research for a few weeks before you start registering names. Like most, I regret a few of my earliest purchases.

Secondly, don't register a ton of names right off the bat. Start off slow.

Lastly, it is VERY important to read up on cybersquatting and UDRP before you begin.

Welcome to namepros :)

MEMEME,

welcome. Before even thinking about which place is good to buy / sell domains, you need to know which type of domains should be registered / bought. Otherwise you will end up like 95% of people who starts domaining and give up after few months.

Read as much as you can, and pay only for what you are confident that you can use or sell on. Don't register TM'd domains names. Take the senior members advice and don't get defensive if somebody doesn't like your domain.

Welcome to NP - if you stick around you will learn much :D

Aside from the spam comment before me, welcome to the forums.

If you are looking for a great place to buy and sell this could be it. There are plenty of deals to be had here in buying domains and selling them happens quite regularly. I like this system here a lot.

My advice would be to start learning some other elements to your online hobby/business. Get familiar with something like HTML, CSS, Apache, etc. Find something in demand that is difficult for most others to understand and start learning it on your own. Makes a world of difference in your own projects and makes you marketable if you need a job or some extra $$$.

My other piece of advice is to have fun buying but consider doing more development. It is fun to own a lot of domains, but if you cannot sell them, don't know how to and they are not making you money, it can be a rough time. If you can develop what you own and focus your efforts you will probably have a lot more fun and do it somewhat responsibly.

Buying and selling domains, I recommend watching some of the interviews on domainsherpa.com These are pretty realistic but also inspiring and often relevant.

My pice of advice: 99.99% of the domains are worthless and useless. As someone said, do plenty of research before buying any domain. Plus, start off very slow: create your domain portfolio with no more than 10 domains. Try it and learn from your mistakes.
