New TLDs & reserved names

To avoid confusion, registries have forbidden the registration of country codes or gTLDs names; for instance com.xx, us.xx, fr.xx, it.xx...

However, for several country-level registries that regulation apply also to the new coming extensions.
That means that domains such as gold.xx, music.xx, radio.xx, games.xx, horse.xx, homes.xx ...etc. cannot be registered or backordered any more.

I faced this situation today, on a european country-level domain.

What are your thoughts on that? Does the regulation make sense to you, or it will weaker country-level domains for no reason?

I think they restrict or reserve "keywords", just to create demand for any given extension.

cuz people always want the shit they can't have.

Finland's extension. And yes, they said it's because of the new tlds.

According to the Domain Name Act, protected names and trademarks are:

• names entered into the Finnish registers of trade, associations, foundations, or political parties;
• Strademarks entered into the Finnish or European Community Trademark Register,
• names of a public body, unincorporated state enterprise, independent public corporation, public association;
• names of diplomatic mission or their bodies; and
• established names and trademarks referred to in the Business Name Act and Trademarks Act
• top-level domains which are used globally or as a country code, for example org or fi.
