the Isle of Man has just opened up their second-level domain and they are hoping to attract the Instant Messaging community (not exactly well publicised though, eh?)

each domain costs £40 to register with the premium one and two letter names going for £995 and £495 per year respectively. nice if your name is K.im , T.im or J.im

If anyone is looking to register a .im domain for a word that ends in *im - plenty of people do it with .us (e.g. del.icio.us).

Not only with .us. There are lots of extention that can be used for domain hacks

You need to get this decision out of the hands of the 'Designated Official' and into a court of law. A court will remove any of the subjectivity that particular official is showing.

A couple of things that it would be interesting to review would be: Are the complainants actually lawyers? Has that been verified? Also, what other domains do the complainant own? Are any of those other domains parked or being held for resale? If they regged any other .im domains, I bet they have not developed them yet..... A little tit for tat might be in order.

Exactly, I wouldn't advise anyone to register a new .im domain. This first example of how easy it is to lose your $75 domain is not very reassuring. :td:

I'm not advising anyone of anything. I just compiled a list while doing some research which I didn't find useful, but thought others might. As for "bim" being a word? It's a place in West Virginia.

I wasn't directing that comment at you. I'm sorry if it seemed to be. My posts here are just a general alert to people on my experience with a .im domain dispute. This is of course the correct thread for your post and some people may indeed find it useful.

It can take up to 48 hours for the nameservers to resolve.
If I remember rightly, the .im's took alittle longer
than most.

Insure that the TIME TO LIVE (SECONDS) setting is 4200
For some strange reason if you change the dns name or delete a dns name the time to live setting gets set to some higher number. I do not understand the mechanics of it all, but when this happens, your domain name will not get fully resolved. It shows up in a dns check that the name is resolved, but the page will not load.
