I just found this thread because the person that started it just bought, or won the right to buy a domain offered under the "domans with traffic" topic. Since I am just starting to sell domains like this, I am trying to learn as much as I can about the process. I have seen more than a few domain sales with posted stats that were either modified (A screenshot is NOT proof) or that seem to have traffic driven from some outside source like those that send 10k visitors to your site for $19.95. Then there is also some cases of very high CTR. I have about 400 domains parked now, so I have a good idea of what kind of traffic and CTR someone can expect from non-premium domains.
Of course, my CTR should go up as I learn to better optimize my parking pages, but when I see consistantly high numbers for yet another parking page, I just have to wonder a little. In the case of the domain that John won, the person offering it (1 trader feedback) raised a number of red flags in my mind, including the posted stats and also that while the domain was a Spanish word, the landing page was all English, yet it still had a high CTR. No proof of fraud, but all things to make one cautious.
As far as any new methods of driving traffic, I see no end to what people will think of. I think the traffic is less of a concern unless it violates the rules of most parking services. The bigger concern to be is fraudulent clicks that may be created. I just bought a domain last week, and when I went to park it I discovered that it was BANNED br the main service I use! That's the first time I had that nasty surprise...! And not one you would expect from a hyphenated .info name (or maybe you would...).
I don't see much discussion about this problem here unless I am just missing it. I know I didn't see any guidelines that talk about selling domains and perhaps that should be included to educate buyers and warn sellers?
