For those of you buying domains with traffic for the natural type in traffic (typo, or generic) Be careful. There are people inflating the numbers in a way which is pretty much undetectable.

They post a viral video on youtube and then put the url over the video. People naturally type the url into their browser at the end of the video and a unique visit is recorder. The bad thing about this is that none of the search engines pick it up so its impossible to find most of the time.

Be careful.

If someone doesn't disclose ANY type of marketing on traffic names - Yea , Shame on them.

Viral Videos are a Marketing/Advertising technique now .... No doubt about it.

This would of course only and I say only apply if the domain name shown on the youtube (metacafe whatever) video went to a parked page or page full of ads at the domain, if there was an actual website which I am sure this most of the time, then they are not trying to increase the value of their domain obviously, they are just being web 2.0 and there is nothing wrong with that

If there is a whole lot of parked domains out there with the domain name on youtube videos, then this is news to me, I have learnt something new, but I somehow doubt it and I am not going to go through a million youtube videos to find out

You missed the point .... He's only talking about people Selling these names as "Traffic Names" and not disclosing the fact they are doing this.

It is a viable way to market/advertise ... But you cant use it to inflate traffic without telling potential buyers. The same goes for those that do not disclose other forms of advertising on traffic names.

Hi Mark, I did miss the point then, but it does sound as though there is no proof this is actually happening, if this isn't just assumptions what real life scenarios is it based on

I have just been on techcrunch and read the news that google is patenting some algos that will allow one to search within videos and images :D Yes it is a long shot but just read it 30 mins ago.

Maybe if this comes into existence then this type of things will slow down.

Since the heading of this thread states this as a "new scamming tactic", then it must be true then, it musn't be just someone seeing a domain name URL in a video and jumping to conclusions and panicking and not considering the fact that there is a valid website under that domain name

Searching within videos ok, but the domain url can easily be put on a clear gif or .png file

Sorry to be a critic, but no one has pointed to any valid evidence of this scam in action and the thread title is stating it like it is a fact!!!

Well seing he isnt even online .. Maybe wait until he is back ?

I'm not going to judge the title or thread - Because I don't put anything past scammers now a days. Evidence or not , It is a viable thing to worry about. Then again - The traffic received "might" be decent traffic ... But it still isn't "Natural Traffic" and shouldn't be represented as such.

True Mark, but I was thinking it is far to elaborate to find a video that will rate high in youtube post it with intent to increase domain traffic, would think it would not be a feasible technique for a scammer to use, sounds like to much hard work for too little return on the scammers behalf

The people selling these names might not even know about these videos since the "links" are not picked up by any search engines. The videos could have been put up by a previous owner, and the domain subsequently changed 3 hands before being offered to you.

I just found this thread because the person that started it just bought, or won the right to buy a domain offered under the "domans with traffic" topic. Since I am just starting to sell domains like this, I am trying to learn as much as I can about the process. I have seen more than a few domain sales with posted stats that were either modified (A screenshot is NOT proof) or that seem to have traffic driven from some outside source like those that send 10k visitors to your site for $19.95. Then there is also some cases of very high CTR. I have about 400 domains parked now, so I have a good idea of what kind of traffic and CTR someone can expect from non-premium domains.

Of course, my CTR should go up as I learn to better optimize my parking pages, but when I see consistantly high numbers for yet another parking page, I just have to wonder a little. In the case of the domain that John won, the person offering it (1 trader feedback) raised a number of red flags in my mind, including the posted stats and also that while the domain was a Spanish word, the landing page was all English, yet it still had a high CTR. No proof of fraud, but all things to make one cautious.

As far as any new methods of driving traffic, I see no end to what people will think of. I think the traffic is less of a concern unless it violates the rules of most parking services. The bigger concern to be is fraudulent clicks that may be created. I just bought a domain last week, and when I went to park it I discovered that it was BANNED br the main service I use! That's the first time I had that nasty surprise...! And not one you would expect from a hyphenated .info name (or maybe you would...).

I don't see much discussion about this problem here unless I am just missing it. I know I didn't see any guidelines that talk about selling domains and perhaps that should be included to educate buyers and warn sellers?

The same problem arises when people will take out an offline advertisement.
