Periodically I will do some social media marketing for certain domain names. Sometimes a response will be received within 24 hours, sometimes a few days later, or even a few weeks later. I always find it odd but interesting when a response is returned months later.

This week I received a response from someone I contacted in late July 2014 to announce a domain auction. So the response came nearly 20 months after the initial contact. That auction platform (DNX) is no longer active.

Wow - I am in shock :) This morning I received a response from another FB message I sent mid-July 2014 (20 months ago) promoting some Spanish real estate domains. The response indicates they are interested though when I respond with a price well above reg fee we'll see if they are still interested. Oddly their current domain is a three-word English .COM in a predominantly Spanish-speaking city.

At least they have read and kept your E-mail :)
That's the problem with end users, they usually buy only when there is a present need for a project. They don't stockpile domains for future use. Timing is important. You have to present good inventory but it is also about being at the right place at the right moment and that's why patience is so important in this business.

It was a Facebook message. The advantages are bypassing spam filters and reaching someone in the organization closer to a decision maker than the receptionist. The individual administering the Facebook page may not be in a position to authorize a domain purchase but they probably either report to or have some contact with that individual. The downside is that FB limits the number of messages you can send in a short time and some companies do not monitor their FB messages as closely - as in this case. Since my initial email mentioned multiple names, I need to think about presenting a package deal or pricing individual names. I've never found outbound marketing to be very effective but do it on a limited basis.
