I would:
make the site's layout not span 100 % ... I'd make it 90 percent or something, so that the margins are not as close to the browser's margin.

Put some content there to be able to see more about it

I don't know but I preffer lighter colours on professional websites, like blues.

Still, I agree with the above post of not making it 100% wide
