New here with an issue...

Hello, this looks like a great place!

Bought my first dotcom over 12 years ago and am actually looking to sell that name now - that's my "issue", because it seems that just by asking "hey what's this worth?" on dn forums can lessen its' (at least perceived value), or at least so I'm told. Estibot is pretty encouraging $-wise with this name but I know its worth more
- got my work cut out for me, it looks like!

- so if appraisals aren't the way to go, then how do you figure out what the market will bear before putting a name up for sale or for auction?

Enduser companies in this name's particular industry may be the best bet for "1st contact" with the market, but I'm finding name valuation all-over-the-map, especially with people who aren't involved in the domain industry - they seem to tend to undervalue.

Obviously I'm a newbie at this, and from my perspective letting it out what the name is right now is almost like starting the sales process.

Do you see my dilemma here?

I guess you have a cracker of a domain, but now is not the best time to sell any domain. There would be at least 50 people here on NP's (im not one of them) who could value your domain within 50/100 dollars.

If you want to sell it you are going to have to tell people what it is. In the end, the market is the market, you cant sell a domain for what people will not pay.

People can only help so much, my advice is find a senior NP member, from the high priced domains section and send them a polite PM asking to appraise it for you. Hope this helps, and good luck.
