Hey folks, I stumbled upon something interesting on X today. The .new extension. It seems to be gaining traction with some popular tech companies using it for specific services. Well, the reg fee and renewal is $400, That's enough to make you scratch your head. On the flip side, code.new reportedly sold for $62K. Thoughts?

By tomorrow it will be .old

Being said a domain on it like whats.new could make sense if developed into a site because it's semantically correct and the site focuses on constant new developments/news/products/services/events etc etc

Don't bother acquiring many such focused aforementioned keywords they are premium and make no sense combined with the TLD, one can do better. Generally "new" comes before, not after, whatever "example".

$400 is too much.

TBH, anything above $100 is too much.

A few years later they should rebrand their sites from .new to .old.

While .new is a good new domain name to use as a news site and is slowly gaining user acceptance, the $400 price tag is still high unless you're a large company and can afford to take the risk.
