I have been reading story's all over the internet about the owner of crypto.com saying the domain is not for sale at any price. There is speculation the domain could have a value as high as 25 million dollars.

There is even one person (Francois):
https://domaininvesting.com/daily-poll-crypto-com-worth/

He says....

I received a $400K offer on crypto.info in January that I declined.
I think the confirmation that the .com is not for sale seriously raised the value of my .info overnight.

Looking at all of this I am starting to think the $185,000 to start a new gTLD might be a bargain for someone.

Spend the 185k and now sell...

bitcoin.crypto
anything.crypto

You would create a flurry of new registrations and the registrar who owned this could probably write their own paycheck by charging 25k per registration.

Interesting..... don't you think?

Not sure but if I had crypto.info and someone offered me 400k I think I would probably take the money and run.

I am not sure what is less believable getting that offer or turning it down. I seriously doubt if the offer was made that it was a legitimate offer.

It's not quite a fair comparison. .crypto would never cost just $185k, there would be many bidders and likely an 8, maybe 9 figure cost for the winner. .app was ~$25 million, .web was $135, and even some of the "lesser" ones got into the millions (.salon for $5 mil.?)

well.. maybe even more intereating question to ask is.. if .crypto were such a fabulous idea.. then why has no one still done it

Highest .info sales.

http://dnpric.es/?q=.info

Sex.info $202,000
Travel.info $116,000
Car.info $76,000

... and ...

sex.info -> parked
travel.info -> not resolved
car.info is the only one developed.

P.S. my SEO software (linkody) says: .info TLD related to SPAM.

Exactly, ngtlds SUCK

Very little real demand and there is a persistent oversupply of domains as is

.crypto is unnecessary, it's not like any project has failed to launch because they can't find a suitable domain.

I think Crypto might become better than any of these keywords in few years depending on how things go.

So I think 400k offer is possible but high no doubt

Exactly, first off we are years away from a second round, if it ever comes about. If it does, there would be many applicants pushing it into the millions.

Why because it was not en vogue back when the first round took place, you could buy Bitcoin for $2 to $10.

The new generic top level domain (gTLD) application system opened on January 12, 2012. The application window was initially to close on April 12, 2012. However ICANN's Chief Operating Officer, Akram Atallah, stated there was a glitch in the TLD application system leaving applicants' information visible to others. The system was shut down to protect applicants' information, and measures were taken to resolve the situation.[23]

ICANN re-opened the TLD Application System on May 21, allowing applicants to submit and review their applications until May 30, 2012.[24]

On "Reveal Day" June 13, 2012, it was announced that ICANN received about 1,930 applications for new gTLDs, 751 of which were contested.[25]

Hmmm, so because you don't like them they all suck?

So everyone selling them and making money on them are depositing imaginary paychecks?

You know you are on a domaining forum right?

There's lots of evidence to support my opinion (that they suck)

Who are these all people crushing it with them, the registries?

Some sell on aftermarket but not because of any inherent value. It's more about salesmanship/ hard selling/ greater fool theory/ beauty in the eye of the beholder.

ngtlds don't sell well at all

they just make bigger deals out of each sale.. precisely because they are so relatively rare.

marketing 101 ;)

cheers

Personally I don't deal in the new gTLD's but it is undeniable that there is money to be made on them.
