.Net, .Org, .US - Substantial price jump at GoDaddy

.net and .org now are $13.99 and .US is $18.99 at GD.

These are big jumps that should make .com more desirable to some hard-to-measure degree.

The article does not say .us is $18.99, but I just called my rep. and he said they are now $18.99 and he also said .TV just came down a little, but he was not sure how much.

If you are a volume customer, though you can still get the $7.38 on .net, .org and .us, I was told.

It sucks godaddy is now $18.99 per .us name.

all my names expiring within the month are going to Moniker :)

Thanks Godaddy :)

I think there is already a thread about godaddy price hike.

THis is really bad on GD's part. Its their most obvious action that shows that they now want a big "piece" of the domain pie. wow. i wonder if people will start registering more names at other registrars.

I think GoDaddy.com might want to reconsider this move. It is one thing to move it up 50 cents or something, but with this move they might actually help their competition.

I assume GD's the only one increasing their prices?

Maybe Godaddy is testing the water as GoDaddy is popular not only in domainers world but also in public consumer world. Many of my friends knew only about Godaddy and assume Godaddy = domain registration until I told them about other registrar.
Many non-domainer register there so those who doesn't do price comparison and didn't know about it won't notice about the price hike and will be the one that doing the purchase.
Consider that most domainer buy .com version only so that might be another reason they are daring to increase the price as the price hike won't push the domainer away yet they can have a higher revenue this way.

I have hundreds of names I was going to transfer to GoDaddy.com as expiration neared, but not at these prices.

GoDaddy.com might have become the standard, but with this cash grab they will actually help their competition.

GoDaddy.com is already near the high end of average registrars when you don't use coupons. $9.99 was no deal before for NET/ORG.

On top of that they are raising prices over 30%. Just seems like a foolish business decision to me.

Consumer still goes to register.com and netsol.....

Helping their competitors? Not really as how many people(non-domainer) know about name.com, fabulous.com, moniker.com...

Big corporation do decision based on research so they must have a reason for that.

Big corporations make poor decisions all the time. Look what happened to all the top mortgage lenders.

With higher prices people will look for alternatives, of which there are many.

Big hike!! :o
This decision will affect their company very badly. Godaddy is well known because of their cheap prices. One of the worst decision taken by godaddy. 8-X 8^X

Only a few out of so many that make bad decision. Corporation do business and not gamble. Risk management is one of their job.

People will look for alternative if they know there are one. What if they don't know. Ask yourself, before you become a domainer do you know that .com whole sale is less than $7? How many average consumer know about this info.

Assuming you are an ordinary person that know nothing about domaining and you earn 5k or 10k per month will you care about how much you pay for a domain name? What is the percentage of that domain to your income 0.01%?

With higher prices domainers will look for alternatives.

I see this as the reason they increase price for .net but not .com .

I agree with you to some extend, but i guess most people will make atleast 1 search before buying something, even its a domain name, for eg. searching "domain name" on google, yahoo etc. is enough for them to see those "cheap domain" advertisements from adsense, overture etc.

Again, EXCEPT FOR THOSE DIRECT TYPE-INS :D
