Have you ever found yourself wondering which is the oldest registered Internet domain still in operation?
That honour goes to symbolics.com which was registered in 15 March 1985 - long before anyone knew what a huge part in our lives the Internet was going to play some 20 years later. In fact at that time the Internet as we know it was yet to be invented.
Other companies that were in at the start include HP, IBM, Sun and Intel who all registered in 1986. Apple waited until February 1987, while Microsoft's name does not appear anywhere in the first 100 which you can see at www.jottings.com/100-oldest-dot-com-domains.htm. In fact, according to iWhois, Microsoft.com was not registered until 1991.
