Need some urgent advice on responding to an email offer!

I emailed a couple of poker companies the other day offering my domain name (see sig) for sale, not really expecting anyone to reply. Then I checked my email this morning and it turns out one of the (fairly large) companies I contacted is interested.

I have never made a sale before (I only got into selling DNs about a week ago), so I'm a little nervous on how to deal with this... they want me to email them back with an asking price cause it's company policy that they don't bid or something. How should I approach this? Also, how much should I be asking? I made a thread in the appraisal section but no one really responded.

Any advice/general tips would be greatly appreciated! If this is supposed to be in the Newbie section then I apologize in advance.

Yeah I'm moving on and trying other companies. I sent out about 30 emails last night so hopefully I'll see a few replies.

I'll do what briman said and email them a few days later with a counter offer.

Am I screwed, by the way? I put the domain up on Namecheap when I first bought it not knowing much about DNs. Anyone who googles the name will be able to see that price and know they're being 'ripped off' instantly.

Anyway thanks again for all the great advice. + rep for everyone!

I did this recently with a poker domain of mine.

I emailed a few online poker rooms about two domains I own and one website replied and asked "how much". Now this is the tricky part not knowing how much a company that literally makes a million dollars a day is willing to part with, but I decided to ask a very reasonable amount as these are smart people that are not to be had. They wrote back deciding to buy one of the names with no haggling of the price.

My reasoning comes from my experience in marketing other domains I own to related companies and I made the mistake of asking WAY TOO MUCH thinking that they make too much to care. Well I learned from that experience and now I'm not as greedy and remain content with getting what the domain is worth rather than trying to stick it to people. Companies are more willing to do business if your reasonable and honest.

This is great advice indeed. Have a price in mind you'd be happy to get for your domain and stick to that whether the buyer claims to be a billionaire or a student setting up a charity site. If your price is $10,000 and you're happy to lose potential $1-2k sales in the meantime, stick with it. If you'd be happy with $1-2k, don't get greedy and tempted to ask $10k and blow the sale.

I recently sold a domain for $1500 that later turned out to be to the CIO of Refinance.com (they paid $700k for refinance.com!). I probably could have got more, but I was happy with $1500 for something that cost me $29 on a drop in August.

What about replying, what do you think is a fair price?

If they are an experienced buyer, that response will piss them off. IMO, that response is worse than starting out with a slightly higher than market asking price. Of course, you scare most interested buyers away if your first offer is too far above market value, so you have to be careful.

Genearlly, I will not waste my time on anyone who says "make me an offer" as there are too many other domains out there for me to choose from (Although I am usually looking at a particular category of domains and NOT a particular domain itself).
