Hi everybody!

Long time no see(life threw a couple bad things at me , i cannot believe it was over 2 years ago when i was active here)!

Now straight to my problem....(and being absent for this long time i need to refresh my knowledge, got "rusty"!)

I need to consult a client in buying a domain and of course this domain is taken...taken by a large portfolio holder,so i need to have advice in negotiating since they put a heavy price tag on it..my client is ready to pay some money for it, but not THAT high....

cheers, liquidcherry (good to be back, i missed ALL of you!!)

Is it owned by a large portfolio holder or represented by a large portfolio holder?

If they simply represent it then they might be at the mercy of a client.

If its theirs then it really depends who the holder is. BuyDomains and MostWantedDomains are very reasonable when it comes to negotiating, while others I found to be very unreasonable at least from my point of view.

At the same time large portfolio holders get tons of emails all the time, most are a waste of time. People with silly offers and people who had a brain fart then they sobered up makes up a big percent of emails.

So to stand out do your part in explaining the client the value of domains, get him to commit to the highest possible dollar amount.

Be honest with the portfolio that you are a broker and present a offer that features 50% of what the client is ready to pay, explain that if agreed you will close the same day and provide your phone number and anything else to show you are serious.

Negotiate your way up from there.

Sometimes you must be ready to wait, if they just acquired the domain they might be more diffacult to negotiate with vs. if they had the domain forever.

PS if you are human life will throw things at you, sometimes we see what the things are and sometimes we wake up one day and god forbid we realize that for years we had a issue we didn't know about. If a few weeks go by and I didn't encounter any drama in life I get very nervous. While some act as if life is wonderful the fact is there is no such thing. If you still breath there are things that from your prospective is a problem.

Hi AE,

Thanks for your reply.

I sorta was thinking of doing what you suggested(btw, it's theirs).

But there is a new twist to the story, they increased the price, they added a measly $ 1000 to the initial asking price, probably based on the sudden spike in traffic on the domain in question>:(

Need to put my thinking cap on for this one i guess.....

Cheers
