I think you need to spend more time researching the names that sell. Don't focus so much in buying, but see what is selling. Understand differences between dictionary, brandables, singular vs. Plural, etc. Hang out everywhere you can where domains are sold and watch. We all struggle... but you will save yourself a lot of time and money by doing the above.
