You recommend people not work with them because you where rejected? Seems like sour grapes to me....

I get rejected for Sedo auctions, does not mean I will not moan about it and tell people not to try.....

Some of those domains they allow to list are very valuable for example: 4962.com and 7864.com

Yes you mean that names "03857.com" ;)

Some of those domains aren't valuable, but a lot of them are. None of yours are valuable. Stop being ''that guy''.

Hello friend,

don’t be frustrated...domain values are in the eyes of the beholder ..however, we live in a world of free market (at least for most countries) so values are governed by the supply and demand....maybe try different extensions to diversify in the future :)

The highest ever .company sale (as per namebio) was $4k. I remember when you were complaining last year how they would let you auction your .company names only if you removed the reserve and you declined and instead wanted some crazy unrealistic reserve.

When people see you trying to auction a .company with a starting price of millions, one can't help but laugh. All the while, the highest recorded .company sold for $4k. People didn't conspire against you, you're just out of touch.

I have to agree with their choices. Also, if you requested a reserve it is likely the names were not accepted for that reason. .company is not a popular extension. The examples they did choose are far more popular extensions. .com of course is the most popular!

So they have to be clear they have to add Note" This auction for .com & our friends ONLY ".

The company extension isnt popular enough. I'm actually shocked you put 4N .com names as an example for bad names when those probably worth more than your whole company domains list.

I don't want to be rude but you're very aggressive for no reason

they do have other extensions listed not just .com.....they can not put that “friends only and local only”; it would be discrimination if they put that.....but after all, there were probably many domains submitted to them and they have limited spaces to accept some...as other people mentioned, .com is the most popular ....I personally like .org more haha but I still way more .com than .org :)

[Disclaimer: I am completely expressing personally on this. I am not part of the production of this event, nor am I involved with RotD or GoDaddy. This is Jothan the person speaking and not in any way an opinion of the Domain Name Association.]

I am not involved in the inventory selection process on this (or past) NamesCon auction, and I did see some large contrast between what @Almarri.Company submitted and the names which are in the auction, so I see the point being made.

That is an effing rockstar list of .company domains, btw, for those who are COM-agnostic.

The auction selection process is one of accepting or rejecting names that can sometimes leave people having some feels - either elation and delight at the possibility of a sale after acceptance, or the deflation and often anger of rejection.

I have a lot of empathy, and understand the energy behind the message that kicked off this thread, though I disagree with the premise that it will be an unsuccessful auction after looking at the premium roster and advanced bidding activity info that is publicly available.

The live auction will take place in Austin, as opposed to Las Vegas. Austin is a tech mecca that is home to lots of startups and massive tech operations, so... different audience. The fact that GoDaddy as a different provider is behind this one may stir a larger pool of interest and bidding activity due to scale.

But back to the message... I definitely see the basic point being made that some of the names that made the auction cut, when contrasted against some of the submitted names, cause some pause.

I have some background in past selection processes at live auctions, and have seen a number of rationale often used. After having been involved in the selection criteria for a number of live auction events, there are some common factors.

For auctions I have not been involved in the facilitation of, where I felt it appropriate to submit names, I have had MY names not accepted or refused on a variety of grounds and have experienced butt-hurt over rejection situations, so I have built a roster of pragmatic rationale to help be more emotionally detatched from these outcomes.

I'll share in the hope this helps others be pragmatic and not take anything personally when experiencing a rejection scenario.

How does a name that was not as good as mine make the list when there is a stark contrast?

  • The "Chad Lowe" / "Dave Franco" factor - How did these guys get acting parts? Famous sibling. What frequently happens is a seller with a super premium name puts in that domain under the condition that some others from the same seller are included.
  • "Seeds and Stems" - There is a desire to have no-reserve names included - which often attracts some names that were submitted with no reserve where they might contain a buzzword from a recent trend or them of the auction.
Sometimes names don't get accepted for a non-obvious reason.
  • last-minute submissions are a hassle - there is a giant nexus between our industry and procrastination or low awareness of the auctions in time to participate in them. The closer one gets to the auction dates the harder it gets to add names and there is also a desire to not introduce human error from late additions
  • opening bid or valuation expectations above anticipated bidding or estimate of valuation of auction house - if it won't attract bidding, especially competitive bidding, it will waste some of the limited time of the event
There's another factor names may not make it in, and it might be kept opaque out of sensitivity or not be communicated
  • ownership validation too difficult
  • platform not supporting TLD
  • seller being a dick or very high maintenance or caught in a lie
  • ambiguous as to clear title on submission
  • domain having some abuse use history (spam/malware)
  • clear or perceived potential / likely TM issue
Again, this is totally general and not directed at anyone, but rather it is shared as a means to aid in their domaining journey. I hope that it is not taken personally by anyone, and it taken in the spirit of sharing as a resource that improves people's experience with listing names.

As they would get 25% of the selling price, and you always are asking for 'millions' for your domains, I'm sure if they thought there was the 'slightest' chance they would sell, they would include them. Might be time to come down to earth and reevaluate what you 'think' they're worth, and set realistic prices to what they're 'actually worth' you may have a better chance to sell them.

Stop drinking your own kool aid, there is nothing valuable about .company, that anyone would pay a premium for it. If people are going to go the route of .company, they have endless choice of other gtld's.

You continue to ask millions for these meaningless .company, MyCar.com has so much more value than car.company, who is going to purchase car.company, Ford, GM? It means nothing

They made the right call, as some of these have premiums, and the crowd would be bored with such names.

I guess they determined that highly priced nGTLDs would never be sold to the specific audience (professionals) participating...
