The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
AfternicAfternic
I think most people who regularly visit this site have it bookmarked...so I can't imagine that domain gets too many hits

I'm not telling the guy who owns this domain what to do since it's a personal decision what the owner wants to do, I'm just putting it out there because I see a huge double standard amongst domainers.

It's cool if you register a typo of microsoft or any other big corporation but it's not cool if you register a typo of namepros or any of their sites or their friends sites. This is the double standard I'm talking about. It's only cool if it doesn't affect them or their interests. A typo is a typo. Either you find something wrong with it as a whole or you don't find anything wrong with it.

How is he doing the wrong thing? A good bunch of domainers buy typos for the traffic, how is this any different?
It's called "biting the hand that feeds you". You don't normally screw with a place you enjoy, visit daily and benefit from.
I didn't say he's doing (the) wrong thing, per se. The guy admitted that he feels bad and I suggested an easy way to flip the feelings.
Faisj - feels good, doesn't it?

Well to be honest not yet Midano...
It was never my intention to do such thing.

When I saw namespros.com and namepro.com i thought why not check wwwnamepros.com

I regged it with many others i regged that day...
parked it and well never really checked it again.

The moment i saw this thread i really start feeling bad.

Namepros is the best community online (that i know)
great leadership (admin and mods), great members, nice layout, very nice
forum options and very interesting (for fun but also for business)

I would like to say to -RJ-:
If you want to own this domain, just email me and I am willing to push it
over to your fabulous account.

kind regards,

Faisj

I don't think it's a double standard in the least - I don't think it is cool either way. Like I said, IMO, misspelling diamond or diamodn is one thing. Regging microsotf is something else entirely. I am not in the least condemning the whole industry of typos, just where you are taking advantage of a business entity's trademarked name.

What is ethical to some is unethical to others, so discussions, particularly, amongst members in a large, diverse forum, will never resolve to an answer that everyone will agree upon or be happy w/. Whatever, faisj decides to do w/ the name is ultimately up to him and, IMHO, to judge him would be hypocritical, because there are probably very few among us who haven't played an angle. Ethics are grey. A more black and white issue and where I would draw the line would be if faisj sold the name to another forum, which would than make this, clearly, a legal matter.
PS That is if "cleary legal" isn't an oxymoron. :hehe:

Dear Grrilla,

Thank you for that post. I do totally agree.
Again to all: It was never my intent to offend Namepros is anyway.

As such its redirected to Namepros and am I willing to hand it over
to -RJ- (of course free of cost)
(what else can i do?!?)

Please do note: I am not the only one with a typo of namepros.

and again, I 'am' very sorry if I offended anyone in anyway.

with kind regards,

Faisj

My sentiments, as well and, ultimately, probably those of most of the rest of us.

I don't think you have offended anyone, the only person with a legitimate right to be offended is RJ and I’m going to go ahead and guess he isn’t.

Best wishes,
Kimmy

I don't think we need to 'give him a break', jeeese, it's not like he's being persecuted. I simply pointed it out to the board's owner, and he has chosen to ignore the issue, apparently assuming it will work itself out, which is his perogative. If you are the type of individual who can look in the mirror and say, "Using a typo of a company's trademarked name is a-ok" then obviously this would not affect you.

seeker's over-reaching assumption that you cannot gain adequate traffic without cheating is a pathetic attempt to skirt the ethics/legal issue: saying everyone steals doesn't make it a-ok, nor does he offer proof that everyone steals.

Faisj- It took gonads to post right away like you did, good job!

Hmm... Let's stir the kettle a little bit.

I regged AskANamepro.com. What does that make me?

Better follow that up before my big mouth gets me into some hot water. (Never want to over stir!) I have no plans to personally profit from the name and, actually, thought it might make a nice joint project for some of the members to get into somewhere down the line. Whew! :hehe:

AskANamepro.com is a good domain, you're not violating anything there (nothing that i know of a domain like that)
but AskANamepros.com needs a little asking from namepros.com if you want that domain esp. if you are a namepros member.

even playing with a domain name spinner to add words to namepros such as:
nameprosaddict.com
nameproshyperactive.com
nameprosgiant.com
nameproswannabee.com

will get you into trouble as soon as namepros discovers it and starts filing complaint.

however if im in this position, :imho: and it was brought to my attention (still giving the benefit of the doubt) regarding the domain i would be willing to give up my ownership for the domain and give it to the one who ask or much better to stay away from domains that are tm and think of another unique one just for me.

Well to be honest not yet Midano...

seems innocent for me.

wow, you got all that from my post?
you msut be a very smart individual, congrats.
I just dont remember the part were I said that if everyone steals makes it ok, nor anything about proof being requested nor required. But then again, you are the one with the high IQ, so I will leave your next reply to your imagination.
