I want to see who the other bidders are so I can get an idea of what's in store for me.

I cut and pasted what NameJet shows when you end up in a three-day auction. I substituted a random number of Xs below for the real data so other bidders reading this post can't identify me.

Auction Details
Status You are not the current high bidder.
Current Bid US $XXXXXX.00
Time Left X Days XX Hrs XX Mins
Type Private Auction
Your Max Bid US $XXXXXXX.00
Registration Price Included
Bid History XXX bid(s) from XXX bidder(s)

Additional Details
Starting Time Oct-XXX-2007 XX:XX:XX PM PST
Duration 3-day listing

One of these days the states will step in and amend their respective state auction codes/laws to include these online auctioneers. I certainly see a potential conflict of interest, among other issues, when the auctioneer sells his own item.

Yeah, its a pain not being able to see who you're bidding against :td: , at least at snapnames you could pretty much tell if certain people were there then you are not going to win.

When you have a limited budget like me knowing this allows you to then go ahead and place backorders on other names that are dropping within that 3 day period.

You also know its not worth hanging around till the end of the bid in the hope you win :hehe:

I have a feeling many names will not sell for as much money as they did at snap using this format - big mistake IMO

JMO

PS (It will also encourage some people to bid on TM names)

My thoughts exactly! Kind of makes you wonder if they are purposely hiding certain "preferred" bidders, or if they use it to see how popular a name is going to be before just "blank shill bidding" on it themselves (ie: bidding on it themselves, since no one can track it to an actual user - or that user's history - and no one knows they never "paid" themselves for the domain beyond the regfee). True or not, you'd think they wouldn't want to risk things not at least appearing to be so secretive and suspicious looking :imho:
