Not sure if non com registrations are driven by the fact that almost all of these extensions first year is free of charge. Do they renew these non com domains? Not sure if it's mentioned in the report.

Not sure if non com registrations are driven by the fact that almost all of these extensions first year is free of charge. Do they renew these non com domains? Not sure if it's mentioned in the report.

It could also be as simple as having more gTLDs makes it more likely there's going to be something that makes sense as a defensive registration. A big company making hundreds of defensive registrations could have <1% .com registrations while attributing almost all of the value they're getting to the .com.

In other words, paying to reduce the detriment of the new gTLDs doesn't make them more valuable, but increases sales for them.
