Name.com false advertising?

I am currently experiencing an issue with Name.com and I wondering if anyone else is in the same situation as I am.

Name has recently made changes to their private whois basically removing the free aspect of it and charging an annual fee for the service. They do have a coupon code that gives privacy for a year at no charge.

They state in their blog that "All domains that currently have private whois already turned on will continue to receive it for free." However my newly renewed domains are being stripped of the free privacy.

First of all I consider this a serious security issue as I am receiving no warning that the privacy protection is being canceled from the domain.

Secondly how can name do this when they openly state that all domains that currently have privacy will continue to have it. Isn't that blatant false advertising?

Has anyone else notice this issue with name? I am extremely disappointed with them lately and have considered saying goodbye.

Thanks everyone.

@sdomains

If you are manually renewing your domains you can renew the Private Whois for free for an additional year on each domain by using the promo code "FREEWHOIS" when you checkout.

If your domains are auto renewing, for a few months we are automatically handling the free renewal for you, which means Private Whois should not have been removed from your account at all. The most that should have happened if the renewal was successful is that you should have been charged the per domain fee, not have it removed from the domain.

I'd be happy to personally look into this issue for you. Please email me at [email protected] and I'll follow up with our technical and support department teams.

Thanks!
