I've been watching this list for a while now. I'm not actively pursuing anything but just monitoring because I'm curious.

What I can say is that the number of names that are being caught at the $50 premium is amazing.

Just today 3 of my top 5 names were removed from the list:

hush.tv
subwoofer.tv

and the awesomely, fantastic and best of the bunch

stationery.tv

(taken at both main backorder players so I imagine one person put both in - great pick!)

I've also been noticing the depth and breadth of registrations. I've seen names go to Poland, to Greece and to China...

It's very fun and interesting to watch.

Anyone else have any interesting insights into what this means in the long term?

What I find strange is that people readily snap up $50 backorders but won't bid up on auctions meaning that there's a very active reseller / domainer market at or around the $50-$100 mark. I would have thought that anyone who owns decent names would easily be able to sell them for $30 at the close.

Interestingly Nautical.TV is coming up (Nautical is VERY VERY IN in the fashion world this year, particularly interior decorating - don't ask me how I know this stuff). I nearly picked this up at TDNAM about a month ago but the Dot Stop told me to quit playing in the "pick up" market and "develop" something.

That's my top pick for what's coming up soon.
makelaars.tv for those who are Dutch

and subatomic.tv for whomever picked up cern.tv earlier this week.

Yeah. I'm bored a lot.

.US domains.US domains
Since March/April the competition for drops has increased considerably but I have noticed in recent weeks the number of quality .TV drops has dropped sharply as well. Domainer demand and end user demand can vary in the short run but at the point where end users pursue .TV domains as a lower-priced alternative to .COM or for video-oriented sites, the choices in reg fee domains will be slim. We'll see if they choose to pursue the aftermarket or just create brandable .TVs like they already do with .COM.

We were actually thinking about stationery for two days but we decided not to grab it because it doesn't match the rest of our TV sites. We wouldn't have time to develop them ALL either. Nice pickup for whoever gets it though. I hope they have dev plans for it. I'm starting to get bored with all those parked pages ppl put up.

Hush is highly brandable but we don't do brandable TV's just yet :P

Yes.I'm wondering if people are renewing more.

There are awesome .US landrush drops happening everyday now though :)

I just thought this the best name of the next 5 days (outside of Beirut if you like GEOs I guess).

The bad thing about it is that most people spell it stationary :)

According to google stationery is a quite popular search term. Haven't checked stationary just yet but I can't imagin it has the same search frequency. It doesn't matter though, I hate the semi "typo" domains hehe ;)

I'm waiting for someone to pick up Favorite.tv for $780 hehe..another of those great semi typo domains since it's spelled favourite outside the US!

Hi there,

I have had stationery.tv on backorder with domainmonster this last 4 weeks, however, I do not feel very lucky, that I will get this one.

The landing page has already changed and it does not appear to be domainmonsters.

I wanted this domain to go with my other 2 domains, stationer.tv and stationers.tv.

Time will tell, but I suspect somebody else has been very lucky today.

(p.s) I knew I should have backordered it with someone else as well,,, ( stupid, stupid, stupid).

Regards

BJ

Sorry to hear this BlackJack21 - I think we've all been in a similar position before.

I supoose the question left is this: Has anyone ever successfully used DomainMonster for a backorder?

makelaars.tv for those who are Dutch

You had me slightly worried when I saw this quote this morning.

Makelaars for anyone interested equates to 'Realtor' or 'Real Estate Agent' in Dutch.

I had the name in my sights - but not backordered anywhere. I managed to get EstateAgent TV a couple of days ago so was quite keen to add this alternative language 'partner' name.

Thankfully, not everyone is quite as awake (or as Dutch speaking) as you - and thankfully you are 'just curious' to get a full understanding of processes involved and not actively taking part too vigorously in this 'sport'.

Well, I was lucky, and got the name for five years at 9.99 a year.

I had one backordered at name.com and domainmonster.com once.

Domainmonster picked it up which was good at the time because it was $19.99 + $19.99. Now its $49 + 22.

I was more interested in winning the drop than the name. I love the name but I"m still not sure what I"m going to do with it. It's a "realtor" type name but applies more broadly. It has a very specific TV/Phone application/appeal to it which is why I felt it fit well but like everything else it's just hanging around waiting for me to get over my curiosities.

Sorry.

ALOHANIC LLC

Looks like a Name.com reseller (must be name.com API). On the bright side means a fair few were after it and you wouldn't have got it anyway.

Some bright side, right!

Potential destination for your other two though?

It's a great buyers market. The drop lists on Name.com has come real competitive though. I was lucky to get a few but in the last 2 weeks every good name seems to get snatched up real fast.

By the way, anybody had success with DomainMonster? Personally, I have not but curious what others have with there backorder system.

Thanks, JIm

As stated above.

I have had 1 backorder with Name.com and DomainMonster.com in a head to head battle.

DomainMonster.com won.

I've tried with 3-5 dot coms but that's no surprise - they were me being highly speculative. They don't have much of a reputation in the .com world as far as I can tell. I like their service though -they've been very responsive to my questions.

Thanks Jimbo, and thanks Default.

Yes, that was not the best news for domainmonster backordering service.

Oh well, you live and learn.

Good luck to all.

does backordering work? Ive heard some people say when they tried to backorder a domain, someone else scooped it up.

Yes. It is NOT guaranteed.

Seen success stated with Domainmonster.com and Name.com but also a couple of other services. Most successful seems to be a couple of individuals - not sure what / who they are using.

Also - I'm not sure the system is quite as publicly transparent as we are led to believe when it comes to certain premiums. But I'm NOT stating that as fact and may be what you have been told.

Am trying both of the above services with a non.TV. I don't expect it to come through competing with the big guys - but worth a shot at a non-auction drop :)

YOU WILL ALWAYS BE SUCCESSFUL if you Backorder a name no one really wants. This is probably the usual case :bah:

Talking about non.tv's, if you really want a domain, make backorder with the big three - NJ/snap/pool and you should be fine. For a (non.tv) domain you think there is not much interest, but you dont want to take chance with manual sniping, godaddy is very good choice, due to its price. It will not win over NJ backorder, but is usually faster then hand regs/slow APIs.

I have one at Snap too. They seem to be the winners for most of the cases I'm looking at. I'm only interested in the name.com model. I don't want an auction. I don't have time to mess around... either I get it or I don't. End of Discussion. I like the simplicity.

This should be my final experiment.

BTW

My DomainMonster Backorder for a TV "lost" today. Which I am happy about. lol.

As for GoDaddy - they sometimes have interesting .TV names - they go to TDNAM before they drop so I find it amusing when someone backorders a name that was available for a year for $29 a month ago.

I know I have picked up one that I like and was trying to get my cc for skis.tv before Atypical got it :) Last month a large number of land rush .US domains were out there on closeout which was interesting. MortgageCalculator.us NOT worth $9? :)

I had better results with NJ, but it really depends about names and its registrars. About auction, if you are only bidder on nj/snap there will not be auction :)

I was talking about godaddy backorder, not TDNAM. Yes, sometimes nice .tvs can be found on tdnam.
