Hi everyone. Can you help me find a solution for the following idea?

Is there a way to load (using PHP/MySQL) the top music chart titles and the band names from “somewhere” into my MySQL database? I would like to do this once a week using a cron job on the server.

You could either scrape (ehh) or use an RSS feed (if the place has one), and place the data into a MySQL db. The hardest part would be actually getting the data in the first place, where are you wanting to pull it from?

Hi Eric,
Thanks for your reply. I knew this was going to be a bit complicated, but maybe there is a solution. I haven’t figured out yet from where to get the chart lists. There are many sites out there that offer this kind of service and I can’t imagine that they all upload the charts manually.

This is the data format I need:

song name - band name
song name - band name
...

What is “scrape (ehh)”?

What code do I need to do this using RSS feeds?

The BBC Website may be able to provide you with the RSS feed you could use.
