I do not think the people who created myspace had a million dollars. They may have done it for 5k?

Certainly it could be cheaper now since you would know more about what todo and not do.

If you want the script: you should be able to find it for free.

That gap, is also how far you are away from owning a site that has any of the success of myspace!

Start at square one, learn a programming language and you could create this script for myspace in an hour or two (like on "Ruby on Rails")

don't let anyone sell you a "Myspace script with 10,000 members"

thats a script spammed with a content generator, your looking at 5 hours of time or less to make one of those

If you want to pay a programmer for 5 hours work by all means go ahead.

There has been quite a bit of on-going discussion about MySpace scripts on other forums such as
Digital Point. There really isn't a good self-hosted script out there. All of them have stability/support issues. You can read about them if you want. I think some of the larger hosted models are moderately successful, such as Ning.com. But they charge a lot because of the cost of building the platform and the need to get some return on investment. Mostly these hosted companies sell to large corporations who want to build communities.
