In the wake of all the people wanting MySpace related domains, with an OVT w/ Ext of 40 as proof of the 25 unique type-ins the name averages daily (aka perfectly targeted traffic for MySpace related sites), and with the fact that just about every extension is now long gone, what price should I expect for this domain? It seems like so far, I've had a ton of interest in it, but all the interested people think they can get something for nothing. :(

I'd not good at this but I'd have a guess at 10k +

Is there not a serious tm issue with the domain? If developed, MySpace would come after it, would they not?

The people that think they can get something for nothing are probably hesitant to pay big money for a name with HUGE Trademark implications. If MySpace took you to court to get this name from you, they would have no problems. Given the fact that you get roughly 750 hits a month and it's probably not get a great CTR (since the visitors are looking for the real myspace site) I can't imagine this name making more than $10-$20/mo. Based on this, If you get an offer in the low-mid $xxx range, I would sell.

myspace is carcking down on sites with myspace in it

You would for sure be contacted by MySpace and most likely a C&D notice.

They are aware of the name as Sedo had me remove it for sale supposedly at MySpace's behest, but I've never received any form of contact from MySpace before of after that, which was several months ago. That said, look around the web and see all the sites developed with "MySpace" in the domain name, including some that have now been around for at least a year or two. I'm pretty sure they've realized by now that if it wasn't for all the MySpace related sites out there with layouts, video codes, etc., they would not even be close to 100 million members right now, and as such those sites are adding more than subtracting to the site's popularity and revenue. It's not as if these sites are in hiding...there's 1 right in Google's top 10 results for myspace, which would take MySpace's fleet of lawyers 5 seconds to find. Who knows though...

Maybe because there are SO many of them out there that they feel it would be too much to go after everyone. Maybe they will only make an example of a few later on or maybe they just won't bother. I think they would go after the .net or .org before yours Crooky. I had myspaces.cc on ebay and it was removed by Ebay for TM infringement on myspace's orders...I cancelled the domain and got my money back from the registrar though.

BuyDomains owned the .net for quite some time but don't seem to anymore. I believe they were asking about $10,000 - $20,000 for it, back when MySpace had about 1/4 the users and a couple dozen more extensions available than it does now.

Someone must have bought it then. I don't know what to say about the value, since you cannot advertise it on Sedo or Ebay...you might have to advertise right on the site and maybe have a counter with stats to show traffic? It is worth quite a bit and a crazy myspacer may go for it.

I hear that myspace.com has a whole barnyard full of lawyers who are sending out cease and desist and trademark infringement letters to any website trying to use a domain with the word myspace in it if it may have anything related to myspace.com...naturally there are excpetions to the use and intent of domains but personally we wouldn't touch any name that had myspace as part of the spelling...my sister is a lawyer and she's enough of a %&*#@ as it is! Imagine if she hated me?

There may have been potential to sell such a domain for a load of sterling a few years back but now it is a legal hassle waiting to bite.

Nope...wouldn't touch it if you offered me a free double cappucino!

Maybe you can just park it and not develop any website... Trademark infringement is only when you use the same trademark in the same category (ie, social networking). If it's parked and doing nothing, nothing should happen right?

I'd just say work on SEO and PR, then you can make a lot through PPC.

Otherwise.. prepare to fight myspace :(

EDIT:

If you take a look at myspace.us, it is still untouched by myspace. And, it is parked..

Shame, because MySpace.ext would make a great file hosting domain... but I'd personally steer clear of it due to potential TM hassles. That said, it'd be difficult to give any valuation. Good luck!
