I am interested in seeing what people think www.myblogspot.com might be worth. It averages about 30-40 visits a day. I've currently thrown up a simple blog but in the past I have had just a logo/banner and it averages 30-40 visits a day regardless.

My plan back in 2002 was to start a blogging service, but I never got around to it. My fear now is due to its similarity to Blogspot.com it isn't very marketable and worth much if I sell.

I've had a few offers made from time to time with the highest being $3000. I'd appreciate hearing what everyone here has to say about it.

Thank you,

-James

TM issues with Google who own Blogger? Not a bankable longterm thing methinks.

3000 is good enough, take it if you get anything like that again

I think technically from what I read Google has "Blog*Spot" trademarked. so I wasn't sure if it'd be an issue. Sadly I purchased it back when I didn't know Blogspot existed and the whole blogging craze kicked in.

As for taking the money and running (which all my friends say as well) the person who made the $3000 offer said if I ever changed my mind he'd be interested still, but I was more interested in finding out what potential it might have at auction.

Thanks for the input everyone. I appreciate it.

Hold on to that sucker and take the highest offer. Blogging is becoming more and more mainstream everyday! I don't know TM law, but can't you prove it was regged before blogspot.com was a TM and that kind of puts you in the clear?

Put in on auction and see what happens.. That's what I should do..

Actually I was a year off in my original post, turns out I registered the domain in 2003. According to the Internet Archive Blogspot.com goes back to 2000. So I doubt there is a "way out" by that means. However that issue would probably be better suited for the Legal Issues & Disputes forum.

My question was more about finding out what sort of price range I could auction it off for. Even if I'm clear of TM issues I admit some people might be concerned by the risk of it and that could effect my domain's potential value. Does this mean $3000 is as good as I'm going to do? Could it be worth a LOT more, like $xx,xxx range?

Heh... people always seem to be divided into either the "take the money and run" group or the "hold on to it" group. This is why I'm grateful for everyone's input. Thanks!

From what I read, acquiring a domain name that has a TM name in between other words is not wrong, but developing that domain into something related to the TM name is wrong and that will end up in TM issues.

Previously I wanted to pick up msnvideos.net after it got dropped, however I was not allowed to because it was banned due to TM issues. Before it got deleted I saw it was parked and had links relating to Msn thus the clash in TM.

It is quite possible that the Big G* may be the one offering you $3000 ;) Try to negotiate and raise the offer. Otherwise I would take that instead of putting it up in an auction as I feel no one would want to offer such a high offer for a name that may bring in TM issues. Putting it up on auction would bring more attention to it too and that is not something I would want to do for a dangerous name like this. Just my 2 cents

Heh... I guess I'm lucky I never got around to developing it into my idea then. I originally got the name as a play on words, like... my dog Spot, which is why my original logo of a spot with a leash around it was clever in my opinion. It was never an attempt at cashing in on an existing service, but I suppose that doesn't matter. Blargh...

I know the offer for $3000 wasn't from the "Big G." It was from a web designer in the UK, so perhaps I will see if his offer is still on the table. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter, I kinda agree.
