I created a Seattle Jobs directory page (www.JobsInSeattleWashington.com) - sort of a mini portal for all types of job categories. I have a few commission junction links embedded in some of the content, but almost all of the links right now are not monetized. If this thing gets going a bit, I will probably reach out to the web sites that I'm linking to and see if they want to pay a monthly or yearly fee.

It's still in progress with all of this, the links on the front page aren't set up, but most of the "content" for this site will be on this front page anyway. Let me know what you think of layout, colors, etc. I plan to use this template for a few other cities and change the colors mainly, but leave the structure intact.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

A little on the crowded side. I would do a seperate page for each of the job categories. Great start!

It's a lot of blue going on there. ;)

While the fixed width is not bad idea, in your case it really overcrowds the site. I wonder what would happen if you go for liquid 80%-85% screen width. It should space it out a bit more and give you more options to place your boxes.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will tone down the blue and increase the screen width from 730 to closer to 780 and I will re-post when i'm done. I like going w/ a fixed screen width, but I agree that I'm jamming it all in too thin.

Appreciate the comments.

+1
And I would replace the clip art with photographs.
And make a bigger/better banner.
IMHO.

Reposted my updated front page. Toned down the blue a tad bit, but still very much a bluish theme going on. If people still think its too much I'll lighten it up even more. I also increased the font to 12px and increased page width (along w/ increasing spacing between columns) from 730 to 820. Let me know what y'all think, I value the feedback!

Still too blue IMHO. It looks better when you scroll down and the blue sides fade.
And at the very least, I would get rid of the fish and faceless people clip art and replace with photographs.
There are links to free photo libraries somewhere on this site - forgot which forum though. Good luck!

I buckled down and replaced clip art w/ real pics. Also calmed down the blue and integrated a blue and green theme. It's getting better w/ every revision, thanks for the comments.

Yeah, that's looking much better!
The photos are much more professional.
You know what I personally would work on next?
The banner at the top with "jobs in Seattle Washington .com" and the cup of coffee.
The rest looks so much better, that is kind of the weak link IMHO.
Good work.

Something in the colors that make it off. It must be the blue border or the blue texts.

Changed the Header style around to go w/ protruded buttons (and I took the blue out). I will edit that in Firefox once I like the style to add slices for mouseover effect.

Great comment on the blue borders - I agree it made it look off - I like the grey much better.

just saw this thread and though about replying :)

so, it looks good.but there is something you could do. for ex, like there was less content on the first page as it loads quite slow. you could do that by putting in a column a list with all the categories. and on the right, like a dynamic updated section. so when they click, it appears that.you could do that with some of the ajax dynamic content scripts available on the internet..\\and I like how you put the ads...they're not annoying :)

and add a favicon and for the footer, make the text bigger :)
