My first offer

I just received an offer for a domain I snapped a few months ago for $60.

the domain is www.luckbet.com and the offer is $250.

Do you think that is a fair price.

If I counter, what do you think is a good faith counter?

This is my first potential sale so any advice is appreciated.

I would counter offer only if I didnt need the money but not too high, most likely Id take it and run. A profit of 190 is more than most domainers here have ever made, and this is your first

Unless you are making a profit on the site, I would take it as does seem like a fair offer for the site.

The site is not for sale that luckbet.com is forwarding to. I forward it because it is getting about 40 uniques per month.

I wonder if the offeror is thinking that he will get the site as well?

I'd make sure that you clarify that he won't be getting the site. $250 is a comfortable price for your first domain IMHO but perhaps you could counter with $300 even $350 if you like to live dangerously. I'd be happy with the $250, but that's me.

All offers are assumed to be for the name only, as far as I know. Unless you listed it as a "site" instead of a "name", you should be fine.

And I would take the $250 offer.

Consider the profit you are making at $250 - if that is:

<=1 x --- no
A) 1.1 to 5.0 x ---> only if you need the cash or fancy treating yourself.
B) 5.1 t 10.0 x ---> only if you have something to spend it on in the next 30 minutes without thinking (pay a red bill, etc), otherwise A
C) 10.1 to 20 x ---> only if you are going to reinvest the cash now, otherwise B
D) 20.1 to 100 x ---> only if it will financially help you out this month (make a difference) otherwise C. (my guess at average)
E)100.1 to 500 x ---> only if it equals or is > all the money you would earn this month on everything (inc proper job) + pays this months bills + gives you 0.5 times your monthly income to pocket, otherwise D.
F) >= 500.1 x ---> Yes, unless you know something that is going to happen in the future and take it into the great unknown...

This is my 'rule of thumb', but there is always exceptions and the domainers 'intuition'. AND this is just my very general rule of thumb for average names.

As someone has already said though - make sure he knows that his offer doesn't include the site's entity, just the domain.

Its one of thos things, you sell it for 250$ and 2 hours later some offers ou 400$ its just a slap in the face

I really really don't like the approach which says always ask for more. If the offer is reasonable, which it is, then accept the offer.

"Thank you for your interest, but $250 is not in the ballpark. I'm looking for 4 to 5 figures for this domain."

It's always a gamble when you don't know the buyer personally. Any kind of counter may make him/her disappear, or...maybe they are willing to pay twice that (who knows).

I'd take the $250.

Now, if the name was LuckyBet.com...that's a whole different ballgame.
