I just checked my E-mail and received this email from an individual......

"Aaron

I am interested in purchasing the rights to green-back.com. I should tell
you up front that I an NOT a major company -- I'm one guy just trying to
support the wife and kids. If you're interested, the most I can offer with my budget is $250. It won't make you a millionaire, but if you're not active with it, I can offer you
something. If that's too low, let me know, I'll find some other permutation
of greenback that I'll get thru normal means.

I appreciate you time and wish you the best.

Thanks

xxxxxxx" (replaced senders name)

I know there are things to look out for, like the sender asking for an appraisal; also I realize it is a good price for a hyphenated word. Just wonder how i should proceed, just agree to the price, or take the chance and ask for a bit more (I probably won't do that).

Payment is my other question, should I insist on pay pal and then guarantee the name will be transferred after three days when the payment to clears or just transfer it when the payment hits the account and take my chances. There is also the option of a certified bank check and waiting for that to clear before the transfer.

Transfer is another thing, should I insist on the person joining the place where I reg'd the DN or should I also offer transfer to where ever and make the buyer pay the fee on top of the price or just transfer to whoever they want and include it in the price.

I kind of know what I am going to do, I just need some other opinions incase I am missing some thing big. Any opinion is welcomed. Thanks

I would accept the offer and use a third party escrow service.

I agree with Colin -- accept the offer, so long as he's willing to use Escrow.com or Moniker's escrow service (split the fees perhaps, as well)

I think it is a good offer. Just accept and ask to proceed using an escrow service.

Domain Name: GREEN-BACK.COM
Created on: 11-Feb-06

BTW I wouldn't use escrow for $250......... Take paypal if the person is verifed or a certifed check....

Counter at $300 and if he insists on $250 then maybe go back down. If he wants the name he'd pay an extra $50 easily. For such a small amount I'd just accept Paypal straight up and then push the name into another account at the same registrar for the transfer. Talk to him on the phone to ensure he's real first :) Good luck!

Check the IP address. If the address is Nigeria or something then beware.

To check the IP address, use some professional E-mail software like Foxmail, then view the E-mail's souce code.

Nevermind. I mis-read the thread. I thought the domain was green-black.com not green-back.com.

I'd find out what exactually he will be using the domain for, he could be using it to set up something which will easily pass the $250 he paid you with revenue.

As "greenbacks" is a term for money (or so that one car commerical leads me to believe), the site will be based around money, which would make me think he will get some bcuks off the site...

he could be trying to make you sell it to him cheap by the wife/kids thing, check the IP, see if its a personal computer meaning he is a family man, or if its connected to a big company...

Seeing that all the other extensions except .info are available for green-back(s) I would accept the offer unless you have development plans yourself for it. Good luck.

For selling, put it on sedo and ask him to pay for the 10% fees

I sold a domain via email offer recently for $600 - used Paypal, waited for it to clear and then pushed the domain.

As for asking for more, I would try $300 - spin him some bull about how you really value the domain at more (maybe $500), but you would be willing to let it go for less.

if you are happy with the figure ie $250 which I would be, then accept the offer for $250 plus escrow, which will total out at about $300+.

I don't know, folks. Looking at the content of his e-mail, it seems almost too smooth. To me, it kind of smells like a company pretending not to be one, maybe just because he/they went great lengths to convince you he wasn't.

He may be on the level, but bringing the wife and kids into it (what, no dog?) and also using the passive threat of finding another variation of the name.

If he's really concerned, both green-back.net and green-backs.net are both unregistered. I guess I'm saying to make sure he's really not a company if you can.

Then again, if you think $250 is enough, that's your call. I just hate to see the suits win.

Why does it matter if its a company, or a guy with 2 kids, 3 dogs, 4 cats and a parot? If the buyer meets your price sell it. :imho:

Seems like a reasonable offer to me. Accept it if he will also pay escrow fees.
