Hi all,

I've got a bit carried away with my regging over the past few days and have come to my senses that I am probably not going about this the right way.

However I'm hoping that with the domains I have so far that there could be a slight profit in a few of them so as I can invest the money back into seeking and gaining better TLD's.

Here is my list.

Code:
batter.us
caravaning.us
clangaming.us
divingscuba.us
gamehack.us
hotholidays.us
langames.us
onthebox.us
taut.us
safari south africa.net
south africa holiday.net
three d photography.com /.net /.org
canon digital photography.com
photoshop serial.com
fixmyfail.com
phixpix.com
procounterstrike.com
ezpzpie.com /.net
sales.fr
videomusic.co.za

The reason for regging these domains were mainly due to keyword research. However, I had bought a few assuming that "broad" in google adwords was good, I then realised that exact searches were the only way forward if you are to take that route.

Therefore a few in there such as canon digital photography (.com) and photoshop serial (.com) have high seo oppurtunity if I developed the site that way... right?

I bought sale.fr for the reason that most other extentions for that DN were taken and I thought the DN held great potential for subdomaining, eg, house.sales.fr / car.sales.fr but I am not sure if this is the case, please advise.

Some other of the domains are for personal website projects that I hope to develop properly in order to get traffic to them as I know they will not generate traffic by the name itself.

Any words of wisdom will be read very carefully

Thanks!

Colin.

I would advise against using others' trademarks (Photoshop and Canon). I like ThreeDphotography.com. Taut.us, batter.us, and southafricaholiday.net are okay too. They might be worth developing if you have a good idea for them. Good luck.

I liked the sales.fr most. It is okay. You need to market it. That's all.

I had thought about the TM issues but I though for canon digital photography, the website could just be a fan site for canon users? There are many out there. Reason I got it is simple becuase of really high exact searches for google. I was very worried about photoshop serial.com I rpolly shouldnt have bothered regging it but the search term for it is really high again.

Any appraisals?

sales.fr is the one I like. :)
Donยดt reg TM domains. You canยดt park it and you canยดt put ads on it without getting problems.

Grace delete all of these and try to pick up some quality .coms on auction @ Sedo. IMO.

Unfortunately I am with Moniker. I presume I cannot grace delete with them?

Surely some of these domains are worth even slightly above reg fee if I stick them into auction with no reserve?

Are they really that bad?

I'm sorry to say, but they are that bad. You will not get a single offer IMHO (except the .fr domain). I respect someone who sticks with their gut. If you go only on our word, you will not experience and learn - so maybe it is best to go thru the experience all the way to the end. With challenges, comes victories.

While google search is definately a good guide, the exact is typically the better predictor - except in rare cases like geo long tails.

Yes. I've been telling people this for years. Domaining is a business just like any other. Value can't be created out of thin air. You can't go register a domain that's available and then expect to sell if for a profit days or months later. It can be done, but David Blaine also held his breath for like 17 minutes under water, go try that.

If you want to make money selling domains, you first have to obtain valuable domains. Cruise the auctions at Sedo and maybe get a few $xxx .com names that have at least 4 bids.

A $7.00 hand reg is worth less than $7.00 about 99 percent of the time.

Also SnapNames.com. I see many domains there with value.

Read Eliot's Silver blog at eliotsblog.com. He discussed regging (Geo)Lawyers.com domain and then selling a $50 pickup at Snapnames for $400-$500. That is the way to make money in domaining. Find great domain names that are dropping with a CLEAR target audience and VALUE to your audience.

It doesn't have to be a geo, but a domain tied to a well know term - typically search term - is a safe haven for value.

Brandable domains do get sold, but there are less predictable than generics since the value is highly, highly subjective.

One person's gold is another person's lump of coal.

What do you mean?

What is a geo long tail?
