Hello NP,

This should be in the Pre-Purchase appraisals but I figured since I'm not mentioning the domain it's not the right "fit" for that thread. I'm sure mods will put it in the right "spot".

Anyways.

I like starting threads that get people talking (as you can tell)
So I have a chance to buy an AGED domain (To be announced later if I buy)
It's been registered since 2004. The "ask" was $3000. I bargained it down to $2200.
plus it's a single word domain.Brandable too.

I wanted the deal to be done thru Escrow.com but this person seems to want to go thru Sedo and wants me to pay the 3% sales tax. (should I question this?)

just on age alone is $2200 a fair price for a domain regged since 2004 but has 1 drop?

now here's the kicker. A similar domain (developed) sold for $30+ million few years back. (I won't tell)

(but I bet you all will start to do some research to figure out what that domain is right now just for fun.)

so back to my question. is $2200 a good price all things considered?

It's a big move for me doing this.

worse case scenario realistically this single word domain is 7 times cheaper than thee ask price of a similar domain that's a 2 word domain.($15K)

So I could sell quickly maybe to that 2 word domain owner for a quick flip. or prepay for 10-20 years renewal and wait for that "retirement money" lol?

yea yea I'm a dreamer but I really did my homework on this one. I wish I could spill the beans but to protect myself I rather keep quiet.

Congrats @Avtar629!

Best of luck, and try not to cave in to offers lower than what you'd be happy with. Based on your info, it's bound to receive lots of offers over the next decade+, and Asia has some serious domain investors with deep pockets. The DN was destined to be yours, so set an outrageously high price in your mind - and stick to it :xf.smile:.

An admirable move, well done!

9 casinos have purchased land in the Primorsky Krai gambling zone.
. . .
Will be holding to this for a while and prerenewing it for next 9 years as little nest egg.
. . .
Can't wait for the negativity! Lol

Congratulations @Avtar629 - I like the name and your plan surrounding it. Really, don't see much anyone can give you negativity about. Most likely you could sell sooner and recover your costs if you ran into the need for liquidation, and if you can hold and let it appreciate as the area gains traction, it would look like a positive gain long term.

My only suggestion is wait out your 60 days, then transfer to a solid registrar like Epik where they have extra security, plus you can ask for multi-year renewal discount.

Will do! Did not know any registrar gave renewal discounts for renewals. Epik?

Cool! Will check it out!

And will wait it out.

I wonder if Putin would invest in buying a dotCom?

Or maybe a Chinese investor?

In the meantime I wonder if ctrip and aviasales can help me dev a site.

I wonder if one or both will do it for free for opportunity to help Chinese and Russians book trips to Vladivostok airport.

Macau succeeded because it targeted Chinese in the south but most of China's rich live in the north very close to Primorsky . And it is just 1 hour and 45 minutes away by flight from Beijing same as Macau .

The story of Macau . Chinese gambler flies to Macau from all over China . China's only gov sponsored credit card is Unionpay. Gambler arrives at airport in Macau. Takes taxi. Where does he go? Hotel? Nope! To the nearest jewelry shop!

Why? He "buys" a $10k or $20k Rolex. Swipe Unionpay card. Customer gets $8k store keeps $2k.

Or
Customer gets $16k and store gets $4k.

Customer gets receipt for watch not cash.

Needless to say Macau is the "lost watch" capital of the world! Lol

Obviously much of this laundered money never ends up in the Macau casinos (deposit offshore) but a substantial amount did. Which explains why Macau did $90+ billion/year in profit while Las Vegas did just $8 billion/year.

China did crack down couple of years ago. Two months after it did Macau profits went down 47%

Hmmm. I wonder why????Lol

China posted agents 24 hours in front of these jewelry shops and arrested customers and shop owners. Took them back to China never to be seen again.

What gambler will go to Macau then?

And here comes Primorsky .

Russia has blocked access by Russians to online gambling and so has China (probably why Bitcoin did well in China )

Russia also raided several illegal gambling houses.

Enter Russia's new gambling zones.

Russia is also thee largest European country by size and population.

And China is thee largest population in the world .

And Primorsky is right in the middle of both.

Yea update. No reply. Lol it's OK. I can wait. I'm at the point where either I get this for $1200 or not. Not gonna cry over it.
. . . This is the best option for this domain at $1200. Cover his holding costs plus profit. I'm sure reason will eventually win over.

Just to be clear your final cost was $1200, correct? And did you pay fees? Maybe people got lost along the journey and thought you paid more, which influences if it was a good or poor deal.

Bad move @Avtar629

But good luck.

Thanks. Needed that. Knew it was coming.
But I like it. I suspected such because of the fact thee owner let it go for a steal. I mean did he not know?

Plus like Arabs, Russians I don't think understand the value or need for .coms. especially if the price is high.

So the buyer of this probably won't be Russian and most likely be China .

There is also a chance these gambling zones will be a bust.

I have been told that Russians going to Primorsky will be a big "ask". That most Russians are barely making a living.

And the ones who can afford to gamble why go to Primorsky? When they can go to Las Vegas or Monaco or Macau ? Or other gambling areas in warmer climates?

Let's not forget Las Vegas was built in the middle of the desert and middle class and below Americans from NYC or Chicago made Las Vegas successful. That was a big ask.

Never underestimate the gambling addiction.

No final cost with fees came out to $1400

Not much effort really just info from one or two RSS feeds I subscribe to. I follow gambling niches and trends.

As far as this "investment" it's a "hail Mary " pass to say the least and I'm no Joe Namath . Lol

But we try right?
At the very least it's a geo and it's aged since 2004.

And the Russian gov felt this "word" was worth registering in .ru.

As we all say. .Com is king!

So not worried in the bit. The worst case scenario is I break even or make mid $x,xxx. Best case? $xx,xxx?

Or!?

$8,888,888 for that "special" Chinese investor.:xf.wink:

I've weighed all the bad cases against it vs the "lasvegas.com" potential and it's worth the risk really.

How hard would it be to convince a man like Putin a president and billionaire to understand that concept of paying six figures for a domain for bragging rights,?

I think even he understands why Kanye West is in the news when he buys a $3 million dollar Hermes Bugatti Veyron. Money begets money.

You pay $8,888,888 for a domain?

What are you paying for ?

Exposure
Gossip
Controversy
Viral
Fame

Equals?

Curiousity! From people who wanna know what the heck is Primorsky that Putin bought it for $8 million?

I've seen him on YouTube and the news. Wouldn't be a hard sell really.

You don't sit your business on a .RU you sit it on the King of Extensions. The First is always the King! .Com!

Lol

Too much?

And yes I could lose my shirt and my pants.

Eeehhh! I'm a nudist by hobby so..... Issues there! Lol

Talk about research! I even took a trip to Brighton Beach with my Russian friend Igor. Brighton Beach is basically "Little Russia" of Brooklyn . He introduced me to some "questionable" characters with leathery hands and no necks lol.

They told me Russians would go to these gambling zones since Putin raided and shutdown all the illegal gambling houses.

They said the reason Putin shutdown these illegal gambling halls was because Russian youths were using their gov school allowance to gamble instead of for school lol.

But if they build these casinos the "bad element" will open up brothels and drugs and pawnshops.

Many young Chinese will come for the drugs and Russian women. And the money laundering? Would be very easy since Russia is in Europe.

They predict many offshore banks would set up satellite offices in Primorsky because of its accessibility to China or simply the "bad element" would offer Chinese money launderers a "service" to wash their money.

It would be Macau all over again!

And Putin would have his hand in everything. Actually nothing happens in Russia without Putin's hand in the cookie jar!

So several hours later and several shots of vodka later. That's the info I got before I bought.

Let me play the devils advocate for a bit.

According to wikipedia:

Primorsky Krai (Russian: Примо́рский край, tr. Primorsky kray; IPA: [prʲɪˈmorskʲɪj kraj]), informally known as Primorye (Примо́рье, IPA: [prʲɪˈmorʲjɪ]), is the Russian name for a province of Russia. Primorsky means "maritime" in Russian, so in English translation it is known as the Maritime Province or Maritime Territory.

So basically you bought the non Cyrillic version of the Russian word for "maritime". I do not see how owning "Maritime.com" relates to owning "MaritimeProvince.com" It would seem the first related to navigating the sea and the second to a geographical region.

I only read the last two pages of this thread. But in them you said it all yourself and frankly I think you needed to listen to your own reason:

1. this domain has 1 drop.
2. zero offers in 12 years.
3. zero Alexa rank
4. ppc (low competition)
5. 4 visitors per month.
6. zero backlinks
7. no historical sales whatsoever with this keyword in his domain listed on Namebio.

Yup exactly correct. That's what I used to get this domain but times always change.

At one point Amazon only had hits for this keyword because of the rainforest and river and some warrior women. Today? How many hits does it get?

Why?
Because someone built a multi billion dollar business on this word.

It's all about time and perspective. Like I said. Don't plan to sell today or tomorrow. Meantime by 2018 there will be three $900+ million each casinos in Primorsky.

Let me play stupid.

Would people invest hundreds of millions of dollars on something without a plan the we don't know about yet? Would they secure land? Would you promote it if there's a chance for embarrassing failure (egg on face).

Everything you've said is true. I plan to do a full press push for the word Primorsky. Perhaps even with Putin paying the tab.

In fact I did play on taking a walk over to the Russian embassy and probably put myself on some Trump watchlist lol and ask them if they could help me promote Primorsky.com

Think they will help?

Free?

I think this domain more than any has a good chance for this.

Putin needs this venture of his to succeed . That's all I gotta say.

Yeah but my point is that no matter how many times YOU call that place "primorsky" wont change the fact that is called "Primorsky Krai". Primorsky already means something. It means Maritime. Good luck starting a new slang term though, I would start at urbandictionary.com

oh lol I forgot to come back here. Well I was going to wait till it was in my registrar account but.....??

Primorsky.com

There you go!

I had posted about Primorsky Krai before on NP. Someone already figured it out and told me lol. There is honor on NP. He didn't say anything publicly.

9 casinos have purchased land in the Primorsky Krai gambling zone.

It is targeting a customer base of China, Russia, Korea, and Japan.

Primorsky Krai opens up to the sea of Japan.

Macau beat Las Vegas 9 times over in yearly profits because it's mainarket was China.

Macau did very well because of money launderers bringing in hundreds of billions CHINA money into Macau.

As soon as China cracked down on this finally Macau profits went down 47% in just two months from crackdown.

Enter Putin's Russia desperate to boost his country's economy.

His solution is to crackdown on illegal gambling houses in Russia and designating specific zones for gambling. Tax casinos would bring revenue.

First casino in Primorsky Krai was Tigre de Cristal which has fully remitted $8 in taxes last year to Russia.

It is owned by Lawrence Ho the son of Stanley Ho the man who started Macau gambling hub. His son seems to have the "golden touch" and Tigre de Cristal is his baby.

This was only phase 1 of Tigre de Cristal which cost $50 million. It was booked solid at opening for the next 2 years.

Vladivosto airport(30 mimutes from Primorsky) is 1 hour 45 minutes away from Beijing same distance as Macau but Macau is no longer good for the gambler who wants to gamble away from the eyes of China . So where is closest place to gamble where you get and easy 7 day visa and tax free on your winnings ? Primorsky!

By the way.
Tigre de Cristal Phase 2 will cost $900+ million.

A Russian company is also building a casino in this area. Cost? $900+ million.

A Cambodian company is also building a casino there. Cost? $500+ million.

And that's just three companies. And as I mentioned there are still 6 other casinos planned.
Cost? Not submitted yet.

Sochi another gambling area in Russia recently opened its first casino.

SochiCasino.com

So.......As I've asked many before.

What do you do when you find out that Las Vegas is being built?

You register Vegas.com and LasVegas.com

Vegas.com sold $35 million
Las Vegas.com sold $90 million (with website)

Will be holding to this for a while and prerenewing it for next 9 years as little nest egg.

Wish my luck guys!

Meantime will contact the top travel online companies in both China (ctrip) and Russia (aviasales) and sign up for their affiliate programs and develop the site and pay for a press release so the domain pays for itself while I wait for a buyer.

Can't wait for the negativity! Lol

NICELY DONE!!!

well played... kudos to you dude... :) Respect!!

There is a good chance many people will refer to the area as just Primorsky, and drop the Krai. Like just saying Vegas.

This is a good example of a word that could have value created due to a change in circumstamces. How many knew that cloud or app would take on new meanings back in 2000? Things change which is one way you can still benfit from domains today if you follow coming trends. For $1400 its a reasonable risk if the area gets developped for casinos and resorts. Same happened with Macau and Cotai domains years ago. Look what Macau.com sold for. This region in Russia is close to large populations with many Russian, Chinese and Japanese high rollers, could easily match or surpass Vegas revenues in a short time.

So much enthusiasm from people from all over the world. Funny how no Russian speakers have scooped up this dream of a name or made any sort of offer on it.

The new "Vegas" huh.

Anything is possible. I could spontaneously turn into a frying pan. Its just not bloody likely.

http://primorsky.ru/ (official site of primorsky krai)

I think even best-case scenario 7 figures is too optimistic. I think macao.com or macau.com? sold for 6 figures.

Vegas.com, LasVegas.com had a very profitable business on the domain.

.ru is king in Russia.

I have seen worse ideas, if this becomes a hot destination could have some value I would guess.
