I am investing most of my money into .com but will not disregard what i deem as obvious investments or brand names in other TLD's.
To give you an idea on my process with purchases, I tend to play devil's advocate and try to convince myself not to purchase a domain... My mindset behind it is to create an environment where i don't get "emotional" with my purchases and look at it purely from a investment prospective or company brand potential.
I also use tools like estibot & godaddy Apr to gauge valuation, but i air on the side of caution as i know that it's computer generated so just blindly believing the monetary value is risky business in my opinion.
Once i have confirmed interest, i will then look at waybackmachine to determine what previous owners used the domain for... this helps me establish if i can see a vision/use for the domain from a company perspective or even an investment opportunity.
lastly i use completedns to have a look at the domain drop history, this in my opinion is a great way to determine how long you can expect to sit on a domain for.
example: if i see a domain has dropped 6 times i will do an average of the time duration between the drop and pickup to help gauge a demand level. This has actually helped me stay away from domains that i feel i might hold for long period of time.
I am new to this so any advice from veteran investors would be greatly appreciated.
Feel free to be harsh and critical, i would much rather hear honesty.
Thanks in advance.
