This is my opinion,

I think that the main target of mtld right now is to be able to promote .mobi, and they had reserved that long list of premium domain names to try to be sure that those domains would be bought and developed with a .mobi site.

The domain names sold in the first auction are not developed yet, and probably the following domain names auctioned won't either. Probably mtld is waiting for the final of the RFP process to check if this way of rolling premium names is better to asure that there will be a .mobi site working behind.

Dotmobi needs .mobi GOOD sites working and soon, because otherwise, since the announce of .mobi rollout last summer no RELEVANT .mobi sites have been developed, and that could seem that actually they are selling smoke.

bmw is not a keyword... it's a trademark!
Huge difference.

Just responding to what you said, "no" "RELEVANT"

I'm sure folletx's point of view is focused on premium keyword domains,
not on trademark domains (Samsungmobile.mobi is also a trademark domain)

why mtld reserved that long list of premium domain names?
if : many good names are regged by domainers and they do not want to develop them, because domainers are waitting the good price.but, the end-user is MR late, it will block off dotmobi.

Good point, I agree... especially for tampa.mobi and manhattan.mobi...
but none of following premium names are developped and this is a pity:

* Celebs.mobi
* Flowers.mobi
* Fun.mobi
* Gossip.mobi
* Hot.mobi
* Laugh.mobi
* Party.mobi
* Stockquotes.mobi.
* Wow.mobi

And I can understand that it could be a problem for MTLD...

the bottom line is it is still domainers that are always in the game for premium names at this point and own a large number of premium names across all TLD's and generally park their names whether they do it with a company such as sedo or their own templates, ppc, and servers. Examples

beijing.com
sex.com
hot.com
juegos.com

I still think that it is domainers who realize the value of generic names and not the public, which is just now catching on.

i just dont like it when people post stuff without reporting the facts, he probably should have said, some of the domains bought in the first mTLD auction have not been developed, not "NO RELEVANT" .mobi sites have been developed since last summer.

Sometimes people with biased opinions dont report the "WHOLE" story

I have to agree that there will be a PR problem and .mobi will loose the marketing value of high priced sales if those domains don't get developed.

I think the better approach to release premium names is a combo RFP and auction, You first need to be approved to bid and if you win then you are held accountable to actually deliver the site you said you would. No site in the specified time frame and they repo the domain, not just shut it off.

The sea of parking pages and non existent home pages will be a PR death blow to the tld. At the very least I hope any mTLD search engines will block out parking pages from results, at least for the next 5 years.

Very true. More of these kinds of sites and fewer parking pages and our future gets very bright :)

Ocean City, Maryland = OCM.mobi :)
500 real pages and growing--and not relying on Google Local search or any other off-site source. These are pages of local description and will soon have accompanying pictures of many of the businesses. The site will also have dozens of captioned boardwalk images taken from these pages: http://www.octhebeach.com/oc-boardwalk-index.html

Also working on HairPictures.mobi - so you can show your stylist the hairstyle you like--right on your cell phone (but still have a long way to go on this one). Right now only the "updos" have individual images to show. :)

That's what I mean. Many of the actual sites runing, have been developed by people like us, with very good ideas but not all the sources and tools that real companies have. Of course we are an important player in the .mobi evolution but I think that real companies have not played yet ( always there are some exceptions ). This is not a pessimistic vision, I just give my opinion about the situation now, and that's why I think that mltd has a problem, a problem that they can solve also. They have a whole premium list and they decide how to use it.

My analysis is that maybe they have realized that liberating domain names on auctions just shake the domainer market and make the names more expensive, but I think this is not mltd interest. Their should asure that the domain names that they liberate now are developed ( That means concentrate in RFP ) until the real companies really find the .mobi name worth enough to bet against the especulators and domainers, then is time to do the auctions !!!

That's again :imho:

Flowers.mobi seems to be a work in progress at this point. I am sure there is more to come.

Personaly I think this is where a lot of investors/devleopers are missing the boat. Taking into account the .mobi is designed for portable devices it makes sense that a large percentage of domains will be geocentric. Flowers.mobi is a good example. How will that be developed to cater for what essientialy is a localised flower delivery service ?. What if I live in Rome Italy, how will I find my local flower delivery store ? By positioning of the the phone ? By postcode or country ?.

Folletx has summed it up well. Currently the .mobi is being driven by the inovators rather than corporations.

My personal view.

I was around on the net at the time of mosaic and cern pushing the the technologies. I saw the oppotunity but did'nt take the chance being niave. I see the .mobi and the delivery method as the future of internet. The mobile phone companies are the future of communication. The .mobi is owned by them. Give it 5 years and the PC will be used for writting documents , the phone will be the pivitoal communications device. A new begining....
