MSN has now made the jump to live.com, search.msn.com directs you straight to live.com. I quite like live.com's interface. So lets see what this does to Google.

Thoughts please..

That interface is nice but the same company is behind it :hehe:

I don't think it will even touch google personally. MS is a softwrae company not a search company so that is why I dont think they will ever measure up. :imho:

Well, to be perfectly honest, Microsoft is not just evil :).

With the large hand Microsoft has over the operating system world, it would be quite possible for them to implement many things into their current applications to involve live.com. For a start, creating live.com as the default page and search engine for IE7.

Microsoft CERTAINLY has the capability to compete with Google on a large scale, as long as it actually uses it's power of the operating system world, WISELY.

I think that live.com in a couple years will certainly be up there with at least Yahoo, and imho Google too.

Microsoft has a lot of money that Google doesn't to throw around.

So in summing up ;) - Yep, live.com definately could be up there with Google in a few years time.

More opinions!

Also, Microsoft has pumped live stuff into Windows Vista, makes it very easy to search using live in vista and that could be a problem for competitors..

Yep,

And they already have applications out there supporting live.com (i.e. Windows Live Messenger, and no doubt in future versions of applications they will integrate it somehow).

I prefered the old layout personally, I don't know why though, just did :)

Its a much better layout - but I think it would be better with ajax, dunno why but that layout just screams "I'M NEW, SHINEY AND SHOULD BE AJAX'Y" to me for some reason, lol

Agreed. If only google could have it's own operating system :P

Obviously, unless they go towards linux and promote that (which wouldnt work well anyways..) I doubt they would do that.

But if Microsoft DOES use its operating system to nail its competitors in the search market, could we see a pairing up between Google and Apple, perhaps?

Just my thoughts!

I find the search results at msn(live.com) appalling usually overlooking some major sites, often giving irrelevent sites to the term searched after the first few results.

Case in point from my location a search on the term " domain forum" shows namepros in the 35 position, immediately behind a GTA gaming forum that has nothing to do with domains but has the word domain in the URL.
Namepros is listed first for the same search term on Google and probably why I came to this site in the first place.I wasn't looking for a GTA gaming site.

I have often searched with someone who for some reason while in control of the keyboard insists on searching MSN We repeatedly never find what we need and end up going to a different search engine.

For my preferences MSN is Kilometers behind everyone else and unless they improve technically I can see them joining Ask Jeeves.

Definatley,

Same opinion here, MSN definately has insignificant results compared to Google.

Although, with their implementation of live.com in Windows Vista and future applications, it's most definately possible they can battle with Google for top search engine, despite their hopeless results.

Only one way to find out :D
