I'm in the process of buying a domain name and wanted to know when it expries. I see a date of Feb/2008. The person I am purchasing from says it expires Feb 2007. He is right -that is what Network Solutions and GoDaddy show. When I go to Whois.net it shows an expiry date of Feb 2008. Surprised that Whois shows different data on different websites. Any rule as to which is the most accurate?

While the domain expires Feb 2007, however NetSol technically has to update with the registry one extra year to keep the domain and if domain is not renewed, then the domain is just dropped.

I would say Feb 2007 is the expiration.

ah! the registrar would extend and if the domain owner doesn't renew what happens???

Btw, the whois data is taken by connecting to different whois servers. Some whois services cache few thousand domain look-ups on their server, so they don't have to query the whois server again. For eg. they can cache like 100,000 whois data on their DB. When someone requests whois for a domain in their DB, they read it from the DB, not from whois server. But after a couple of days, this data expires & new data is loaded. This way, some whois services dont have up-to-date data.

Probably this could be the reason..
