There are many, many discussions and warnings all over the internet about securenamesale.com in association with various appraisal scams. I too have had a problem with them, but for me it was the purchase of their domain appraisal calculator "Smart Domain Appraiser 4.1".
It didn't take me long using it to figure out that the numbers it was generating were bogus. For example, it gave me the following appraisals:
business.com: $7,308
aaaaaaa.com: $7,308
@*(&sdklfj dsfk .com: $7,308
In fact, any domain name over six characters always appraises at $7,308, even if it isn't a valid domain name.
Then, when you click the box to add points for it being an english word, it drops down to $5,000, no matter what domain name you enter. Clearly, the calculator is completely bogus, and just spits out simple calculations that have little to do with the actual value of your domain name.
Here are some screenshots:
What amazes me is that even though securenamesale is widely associated with scams (see http://www.google.com/search?q=secu...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a), they still have not been shut down so that people such as myself still become victims to scams such as these.
In fact, I ran across this software in relation to the e-mail I got from "Joseph Huberman" asking about my domains. I refused to get the appraisals he wanted but I thought the software would be interesting to learn more about domain values.
In my communication with both "Joseph Huberman" from BON-Tech Services and "Andrew Gordon" from securenamesale.com, it was clear I was receiving e-mails from the same person. A simple look at the e-mail headers shows that they are both being sent from the same computer.
From Joseph Huberman:
Received: from diamondoji4lze (ppp130-9.dialup.mtu-net.ru [62.118.130.9])
From Andrew Gordon:
Received: from diamondoji4lze ([213.140.225.228])
by imta02a2.registeredsite.com with ESMTP
Although these two companies show different Russian IP addresses, the computer name the mail was sent from is right there in the headers. IT IS THE SAME COMPUTER! Furthermore, the time zone match in both e-mails and the outlook versions match in both e-mails.
Furthermore, if you do a google search for diamondoji4lze you will see that the IP address used by Andrew Gordon was also used in the past by the scammer.
Securenamesale.com tries to pretend that it is just a few bad affiliates doing the scamming, but they are the same person! What is kind of funny is that even presented with this, the scammer still vehemently denies he is doing anything wrong and maintains the dual personas.
So anyone else out there who had become victim to this, please contact the following to complain so we can shut this site down:
