It seems Hasbro/Parker Brothers are bringing out a new Monopoly game the involves a Visa Credit Card rather than any type of classic play money. This of course brings up many questions about the state of humanity, our desire for "right now" and the lack of education concern.

Anyway, my mother wrote up an article about her feelings on it, and if you want to check that out it's here: Clicky.
(Note of course that this is not meant to be an advertising thread, but rather a thread about the new Monopoly game and how it depicts the current generation - but if you do like the article, Digg it :))

I would link to the official page for this new Monopoly as well, but it appears to be down at the moment...

Anyway, feel free to discuss or ignore. :p

Agree with the comment left in a way I guess.

Some of the lessons gained by the use of Monopoly Money:

* Improved coordination skills - preventing the money from bending
(Very debatable tbh. everyone I knew just slid it under the board or stacked it!)

* Sorting skills - separating your ones from your twenties etc as well as sorting money correctly into the banker's box
(Back to the Stacking arguement. It was normally the "organised adults" who would do this and tbh, even now, I still stack my cash :))

* Advanced Counting skills - adding and subtracting by ones, fives, tens, twenties, and higher
(This still applies to a large extent. The machine will not tell you what 3 houses on Piccadilly is worth :) - However, I do wonder what happens if you dont have enough to cover the cost.

* Estimation skills - looking at your opponent's money piles and estimating their worth
(True, You cant do this, but then you still have the properties to gauge the welath by :))

* Patience - waiting for your opponent to complete their transaction prior to starting your turn

There is still a large patience factor. Everything still needs to be calculated, done correctly, and debited. What if you play on a friday, the networks are busy and the machine rejects your card 3 times, then allows it ;) lol

* Helpfulness - assisting your opponent (younger sibling) with their math, which in turns helps to improve your own skills

Still very much applies in my eyes :)

Just my 2 sense worth. I do agree wholeheartadly with the "Visa Advertisement" statement tho. Should have been called an Egg card or a Smint card ;) lol
