.mobi Mobile Phone Use to Hit 3.5 Billion

"More than 1,000 new customers are effectively signing up for mobile phones every minute around the world, the survey showed.

"It took over 20 years to connect the first billion subscribers, but only 40 months to connect the second billion," said The Mobile World Co-Founder John Tysoe. "The three billion milestone will be passed in July 2007, just two years on."

Greetings everyone and a special shout-out to all the .mobi domainers and believers. When I joined NamePros Forum, it was off a tip from a fellow colleague. I was frustrated with the overwhelming amount of 'negative' opinions surrounding .mobi

I can understand, but I also understand human nature very well... we resist change, are skeptical and are usually proven wrong about most thing as we usually learn from our mistakes.

I guess with .mobi, that means I'm either going to learn from my mistake of buying several .mobi domains and lose my a-- in the process, or look back in 7-10 years and thank my lucky stars for 'taking action and making moves back in 2006" as all the other evidence and statistical facts are supporting a "growing but sleeping" giant... ie the mobile web.

I'd love to get your thoughts and feelings AFTER reading this article. I have nothing to do with the blog or article, but found it pretty encouraging.

There is no question that mobile phone use is skyrocketing, and will continue to skyrocket.

This little thing called .mobi could become a huge part of that, but the fact is that we don't know yet.

I'm a little disappointed that the so called 'backers' of .mobi have done little if anything to promote it. Once I start seeing that, I will be much happier.

I want .mobi to succeed, that's why I own 228 of them. If it goes mainstream, which I hope, of course we will see many happy .mobi investors.

But we can't predict what will happen. It's still a gamble, but one that could pay off big. Or not.

In the meantime, if you believe strongly in .mobi, this is a wonderful opportunity to get good names on the aftermarket. Someone picked up "notary.mobi" and "indianfood.mobi" last week for I think around $1000 each on the aftermarket. Imagine what names like that could be worth if this goes mainstream.
