Mobil.com was sold for $2,553 in 2006???

Searched this casually on Namebio.com domain sales records.

It shows Mobil.com was sold for only $2,553 via SEDO in 2006... is this true?

It's a 1991 regged domain and currently owned by Exxon Mobil

Since it is a TM'ed domain name, Mobil would have right to it for free

Thought the .asia registry were the only people in the world exempt from auctioning of TM'ed domain names

In some country, Mobil means Mobile, so it is a dictionary word. It can be used with mobile products/service related business to avoid TM issue. Just my thoughts.

Maybe the domain holder and Mobil reached an agreement that was cheaper than paying a bunch of lawyers for both sides.

Edit: just noticed it was an auction. Anyways i'm sure Mobil bid on it because it was much cheaper than lawyers, and nobody bid against them because you'd have to be pretty stupid to spend $thousands on such a blatant TM.

Thanks for finding this one guys. Ive updated it within NameBio - it should now be showing as the correct TLD. That was early in our system, and clearly our grabber had some difficulties back then.
