I am curious as to who here is an actual developer?

-Are you utilzing xHTML as opposed to the old WAP/WML methods? other?

-Do you utilize sessions? or cookies? or a combination of both?

-What scripting languages are you using?

-Any of you creating web apps that feature downloading media over-the-air?

-Any other comments or questions.

My answers:

I think if more of us share our experiences, methods, and maybe tool sets and code snippets we will all be better off.

I utilize xHTML with php, and mysql.

I use sessions only as they are browser independant.

I have several apps that feature downloads over-the-air and hope that more carriers and phones start to support these methdos.

Would anyone be interested in pooling resources to obtain a premium SMS short code for the US and Canadian markets?

Michael :)

This needs to be a Sticky

I think this needs to be a sticky whereby developers and laymen can add thoughts, article posts, links, etc.. Since it is .MOBI related, it should stay in the .MOBI section as opposed to general development area. It is important for the .MOBI development info to be easily accessed in one place. And really, a Sticky also needs to be done for .MOBI general articles as well. Sure would beat fishing around for all of the article info. Way to go mykel241, good start !

But one for developers and domainers to intertwine and exchange ideas and work on projects together would be great.

Exactly!

Great idea that would benefit all mobi developers. As a whole the extension needs to make a footprint soon while there is support and some media attention.

I would be very interested .... as you might deduct from my sig.

I use xHTML, PHP and mysql. I don't use sessions. Also I use wurfl to detect user agent, magpierss for RSS, Phonifier to convert .com content to mobile content.

Thanks, hawkeye. But I found out that the RSS is not the solution for .mobi sites unless some day they provide .mobi RSS. Right now RSS goes to .com site which is very difficult to load/read.

My next project is to convert RSS feed into mobi friendly content.

I see alot of people using RSS but most of the time these direct to non-mobile compliant web sites. What someone needs to do is compile an RSS feed that links to mobile compliant sites.

That's a very good idea. It will benefit everyone here. Should we start a new thread for mobile RSS feeds or post it here?

I'd say start a new thread, and a sticky one, as this will get lost soon into the 'past pages of oblivia'. :)

IMHO, phonifier is not the solution. I have used it for a while on one of my .mobi site. What it does is to filter out frames, flashes, images, etc. but it still leave tons of unwanted stuff around. It does NOT promote user experience at all.

Please help me understand how this tool will make the site that I am redirecting to via the title link in the RSS to a mobile compliant site?
All it does is clean up your page on your site.

If I click on a link on this site: http://options.mobi/main/index.php I am still directed to a non-compliant site. Thats the point I am making as it seems to be a diservice to direct someone to a site that they cannot properly view.

The Phonifier will proxy the RSS through your site cleaning it for better viewing. However I would not use the Phonifier because it makes your website a proxy. It's not all that great but still interesting and freeware.
