Well, the MLS just approved a new team called the Houston 1836'ers. AKA the Houston36ers.

Damitssam told me about this, so i regged:

Houston36ers.net (the .com got a 1k offer on sedo)
HoustonThirtySixers.com

Will these be a TM ? NOTE: The city of Houston was founded in 1836, but I did reg after the announcement.

Help please!

If the team wants that name then you have to sell it to them. At least that is what ive learned with several other domains just like this.

Then you're going to have to learn a little bit more. Because under a certain
US law called ACPA, the complainant can sue for monetary damages up to a
whopping $100,000 per name.

There's a right way and a wrong way to do this. Do it the wrong way and you
can end up paying even more.

What i am saying is. The team will sue for up to that amount. However most would rather avoid court entirely so it is best if the current owner sell it to them at a reasonable price.

Lets hear your rant. 99% of companies would rather not have to PAY a LAWYER and go to COURT. They would much rather give you the money for the domain at a lesser price than they would have to pay for the lawyer.

Large corporations have lawyers on staff or on retainer working for them already.

They'll likely just send you an order demanding that you turn over the domain to them. Then the ball is in your court whether or not you want to pay for a lawyer (and probably lose).

That said, some pro teams allow fan sites with the team name in the domain (such as http://www.bullscentral.com/) But others do not (http://www.nyyfans.com/ use to be, I think YankeesFans.com, but the Yankees forced them to change it).

I guess you don't read enough posts here, you really don't want me to rant LOL I tend to be a little hard on the misguided advice in the legal section...

Please read the quote I am replying to.... He is stating to perform a bad faith act...

An offer of bad faith can result in loss of domain, monies earned and a $100,00.00 fine per occurance of cybersquatting... So the advice is not good and should not be followed lightly. Yes, some companies pay off people, some go to court or WIPO, but just think if a company want to make an example of you???? the consenquences would devastating.....
