The last time I checked MSFT was sitting on $15 billion in cash. I wonder why they won't right the check for a lousy $1 million.

Coz if they start doing that the $15 billion won't last beyond 15,000 checks...though I'm given to understand its substantially more than $15 billion.

Quite a shame actually,

Though I'm not really surprised. ;)

Microsoft should buy this so another company wont use the name.

I would think that Microsoft would pounce on this opportunity. However I can see where the skepticism would come in. Nonetheless I wish i had 1 mil and could own Microsoft in Portugal :)

Yes it would. :) It could even get better if Google does it. :)

And it may not finish to $1M in that case...

Do you guys think that these big time companies will go to Ebay to bun something like this? Wouldnt they rather sit down and talk about it.

Both scenarios are possible in my opinion. The name would be for sale starting today. Some of them may want not to risk to chase it a second time, providing the next owner will be willing to sell it.

I cant see someone buying it for a million, turning around and trying to sell it again. But what I mean is, while ebay is a reputable company. It seems like selling a 1+mil asset would be better handled off ebay. But thats just my opinion.

They tried, but Microsoft did not take the chance despite they are interested obviously, so they simply played.

Now many people will know about this, I did not know it for example.

Imagine someone who has a lot of money and hates Microsoft?

I just realized that this domain is actually worthless, in fact it probably comes with some expensive lawsuits.

This company has been allowed to keep the name because they had been using it since 1981 before the other Microsoft. This right doesn't necessarily transfer to the new owner. If someone buys this domain that has not actually been using the name since 1981 they will probably have to hand it over to the big Microsoft under basic cyber-squatting laws - for free!

As long as the company has rights to use it and the entire company is sold along with the name I don't see why the rights won't transfer.

On the other hand, if they're selling just the domain...

Good point though Timewarp

I think they are selling the TM with it.

So they own a TM on the name as well.. Thats pretty safe in my opinion. But I could still see a few lawsuits hitting the winners door.

They have a TM on the name. Portugal is very strict. You can`t even reg a domain .pt if you don`t do a lot of paperwork.
