Hey all figured with the recent .io 6 figure sale and the nice .xyz sale by a follow NP member. We should open a showcase and discussion thread here.

Metaverse is a fast growing keyword, term and niche! Let's share and discuss our name and news.

I've only got One to start with but its a GOOD one my favorite ending keyword on most names.

Owner must be desperate!

What value would you put on it, for an end user?

If I was desperate I'd sell it for one of those lowball offers I get all the time. By the way, you can't compare gamingmetaverse, metaversegames and metaversegaming. It all describes something different.

When Zuck was a only in high school, there were a few different "Metaverse" type projects being born, some of which are still around like Second life.

As early as the 2000s, in Second Life, you had virtual properties selling for millions of dollars, people getting legally married to partners they met in Second Life. You had a dozens of cities you could walk around in with real shops that you can buy skins, pets, properties, home designs, boats and cars. There was a design suit that allowed you to program and design almost anything you want. By contrast Decentraland has only one city with a few shops. People tried to open casinos in SL but it was prohibited. But second Life was successful with a booming virtual economy.

So there will a ton of potential for Meta to pick up where they left off. But my fear is that it won't be nearly as successful as what he may have in mind. He believes that making it VR based and AR integrated is the game changer. It certainly is, along with the increased computing power and mobile computing. One complaint that I'm hearing in Twitter Voice chat is that people below 30 won't want to be in the same space with boomers and the mere possibility of them joining the same space makes any virtual project from FACEBOOK extremely unattractive. It's really interesting. I'm Xennial and half of my friends are Boomers the other half are Millennials... I can't relate...

When you compare what we had in the 2000s to the projects people are making today it looks like it's down scaled. This is Decentraland for example. Youger people don't understand why I'm not impressed when I see Metaverse presentations today. They're more advanced because of VR but it's not really a step forward from what we've already been doing. Just using new mediums for doing the same old crap... I'm ready for something new!

Why do you think it is that the Metaverse is not as impressive so far, is it just too soon or has the emphasis changed? I dont know anything in this regard but could it be that then it was a developers project happy to put in the time but now its more about how can we make money?

Decentraland is a sloppy project that is an org and DAO rather than a for profit company with on board designers like Second Life. That may be what made the difference.

I haven't seen any projects marketing themselves officially as a Metaverse yet, besides Meta and other recent ones in development. But I was just highlighting that so far, besides the AR applications, they're not proposing anything we haven't seen over the last 20 years (Second Life was founded literally 2 decades ago).
