Meaning of nTLD

Been noticing nTLD. What does it stand for? "new Top Level Domains"?

What happens when they're not new anymore? Call them fnTLDs (fairly new Top Level Domains)?

I think the right term is just GTLD (generic top-level domain), and they're called ntlds atm just to differentiate them from established gtlds, i.e. coms, nets etc.
