I think that the saturation of me.tv sites and the ease of use of the tools (in that you can quickly get a channel with content up) has deflected our attention and perhaps we (as .tv owners) have taken our eye off the ball.

I don't see much 'real' development going on - I am as guilty as anyone in that I have become too reliant on the me.tv platform. It has only recently struck me that the me.tv route is somewhat of a cul-de-sac. To be frank, it has made me lazy. 3 months ago I was designing sites and doing graphics, now I'm grabbing someone else's videos - an uninspiring, soulless activity.

I for one am gonna change things next week and have a good summer clearout starting Tuesday! All my me.tv sites are being taken down (20 of 'em - some of them quite popular) and I'm gonna try and pick one good name and do something with it. Come on, let's develop those names!

I know some of you are doing this already and are doing a great job. I will try and follow your lead. Only wish I would have seen the light sooner!

It's a farcical fanatasy brought on by the ramblings of a wine soaked gaggle of hugh school cheerleaders wanting more.

Really? Can you point me in the direction of a press release, interview, or other information from Demand Media (me.tv) that promised something that they have not delivered on, or are not planning on delivering on? I have no problems bringing this to their attention if you can be specific.

When I was buying domains before the launch of ME.tv, I wondered whether I should just develop, or wait and use teir tools. I was told that I would be happy with the development tools they would release with me.tv. I couldn't have been more disappointed. They don't give you tools to build a website. They give you tools to build their website.

I was thinking "development". They were thinking - "adding profiles to their website". :|

They said they were going to promote up-and-running sites on their main page. I had a site that was built and running when they relaunched. I was told they would promote it on the me.tv site. Nada. Nothing. Goose egg. Zip. Zilch.

Hope that clears it up.

Let me say... I don't hold this against them. I hold this against me. I don't know what I was thinking. A company trying to make money... helping me build traffic? Why would they have helped me build traffic to my site when they were trying to get traffic to their site??? (I know... that was pretty dumb reckoning.)

You ask about things they are not planning on delivering? LOL. No offense, but what kind of a question is that? They can always say they are planning on something down the road.

Can you point me in the direction of these public statements? Perhaps a link?

I am trying to find out where DM made statements creating those expectations.

"I was told"

Wow.

That means there were conversations we had.

But even here at Namepros there were DM people pumping the development ability of the tools.

This isn't that difficult. LOL

My question... Were you led to believe the tools would be as cheesy as they are?

I never believed that the tools provided would enable me to create a high powered website, which is what people seem to expect. As far as I know, DM will deliver on its promises in terms of providing functionality. I am not sure that they created the expectation that domainers, using their tools, can create a fully custom look that is unique to their domain. Only recently has myspace provided the tools or support to create a fully custom site and then generally only for big movies and players willing to spend the money.

I'm sure DM have more to come with me.tv and the tools, but is a domainer making money off their me.tv site a priority for them??? I believe they are focusing the tools on ease of use for the site owner.

Think about it They have users building personal sites focusing on loads of personal interests, if they can dig deeper and recognize and aggregate the content on each site to instantly locate and put people in touch with others interested in the same niches then the ultimate social networks are born, most watched, most talked about videos can be found in each area of interest and spread, an advertisers dream.

People will be instantly linked to others with the same interests and won't have to search for footage they want to watch it will be located for them. Im not sure if me.tv will ever gain enough traction on its own, that remains to be seen, but,
If they can link it all together with other sites eg you tube and facebook then social networking knows no boundaries, the groups will be targeted and huge a juicy target for advertising dollars.
